🌷 Don’t forget — our special Floriade celebration is coming up! 🌿

We’re getting closer to our community celebration marking 10 years of Nature Pedagogy at Woden Valley Early Learning Centre, and we would love to see as many of our families, friends and community members there as possible.

Join us on Saturday, 26 September from 10:00am–1:00pm for a beautiful morning of fun, connection and celebration.

There will be stalls and vendors, face painting, glitter tattoos, arts and crafts, a sausage sizzle, drinks, cake stall and centre tours every 30 minutes.

This is such a special milestone for WVELC and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the journey our children, educators and families have shared through nature-based learning over the past 10 years.

💚 Everyone is welcome — bring your family and friends and come celebrate with us!

We love our Farm Fresh Stand! 🍊🌿 It gives our families a wonderful opportunity to share their home-grown produce, while encouraging children to explore new and interesting edible treasures.

This morning was filled with curiosity, excitement and plenty of learning as our preschoolers decided to share the kumquats brought in by one of their peers and his family with the rest of the centre.

There was a lot of hypothesising, questioning, tasting, experimenting, and trial and error along the way. Our infants seemed to absolutely love the sour, tart flavour, while our Joeys team taught us the Filipino name for kumquat and shared their own knowledge and experiences with the fruit. 🍊

We even discovered a delicious kumquat marmalade recipe — perhaps something Paddington Bear himself would approve of! 🐻🍯

And of course, the learning doesn’t stop there. We carefully saved the seeds and will be planting them in our garden to see what happens next. 🌱

🌷 You’re Invited — Come Celebrate 10 Years of Nature Pedagogy at WVELC! 🌿

This September, we are incredibly excited to invite our families, friends and wider Canberra community to join Woden Valley Early Learning Centre and Floriade as we celebrate a very special milestone — 10 years of Nature Pedagogy at WVELC!

For the past decade, nature has been at the heart of our philosophy, curriculum and everyday practice. From outdoor learning, gardening and caring for animals, to nature walks, sustainability and giving children the freedom to explore, discover and connect with the world around them — this journey has shaped so much of who we are today.

To celebrate, we are opening our doors for a wonderful community event filled with colour, creativity and family fun!

📍 Woden Valley Early Learning Centre

This celebration is not just about looking back — it is about celebrating the children, educators, families and community members who have helped make WVELC what it is today, and continuing to inspire children to build meaningful, respectful relationships with nature for many years to come.

🏆🌿 We are beyond proud to announce that Woden Valley Early Learning Centre has been awarded the Bluebelle Sustainable Business Award 2026 for Community Impact, presented by Everyday Climate Choices!

We are incredibly excited, grateful and honoured to receive this recognition. It truly means so much to our entire WVELC community — especially this year, as we celebrate 10 years of Nature Pedagogy at WVELC.

For the past decade, sustainability, connection to Country, nature-based learning and caring for our environment have been woven into the everyday lives of our children, educators and families.

This award belongs to our whole community — our passionate educators, wonderful children, supportive families and everyone who has contributed to our sustainability journey over the years.

🎨 Our Preschoolers Are Helping Shape Our Child Safe Practices! 🎨

Today, our Kangaroos preschoolers helped us design our upcoming visitor passes, showing us what a “visitor” looks like through their eyes. 💛

Every Kangaroo did an amazing job, and we would like to thank all the children for their creativity, ideas, and contributions!

Selected artwork will be printed on our new visitor passes, helping us strengthen our child-safe practices by making it easier for children to recognise visitors within our service rather than staff members.

We love finding meaningful ways for children's voices, ideas and creativity to contribute to how we keep our community safe. 🥰

We are incredibly proud to congratulate Gabby Millgate , WVELC’s Nature Pedagogy Leader, on presenting at the Charles Sturt University Children’s Voices Conference 2026! 🌿👏

Gabby’s presentation, “From Voice to Action: Embedding Children’s Environmental Rights Through Measurable Participation in Early Childhood Education,” showcased the work happening right here at WVELC to ensure children’s voices are not simply heard, but genuinely acted upon.

Her presentation highlighted our Access to Nature Survey, the importance of meaningful participation in decisions about children’s environments, and the role of Nature Pedagogy in supporting children’s wellbeing, regulation, confidence, ecological literacy and connection to the natural world.

It is incredibly special to see WVELC practice being shared on an international conference platform and contributing to broader conversations about children’s rights, sustainability, climate-responsive education and authentic participation in early childhood education.

Gabby, we are so proud of your leadership, passion and commitment to ensuring children have meaningful opportunities to influence the places in which they learn, play and belong. 🌱💚
