We have been having a blast celebrating book week 2026 in Messy Foxes this week!

I had the privilege of cuddling this bub to sleep on Monday, whilst Mama gave herself permission to pause and do some painting 😍

It looks like a lava lamp… but your toddler is doing SO much more!

This simple activity is packed with learning.

As children use a dropper to pick up coloured milk and release it into oil, they are developing:

• Fine motor strength and control
• Hand-eye coordination
• Concentration and sustained attention
• Cause-and-effect understanding
• Early scientific thinking
• Sensory awareness
• Confidence through experimentation

And perhaps most importantly, they’re learning through curiosity and play.

They don’t need to know why the milk behaves differently in the oil. At this age, the magic is in the wondering, watching, predicting and trying again.

“Hmm… what happens if I put another drop in?”

That’s science.

That’s learning.

And that’s why we love messy play with purpose at Creative Kids Club.

⚖️ Watch her work it out! ⚖️

This little scientist is deep in concentration, scooping rice from side to side until those scales finally balance. No instructions, no “right” way — just trial, error, and a whole lot of focus.

What looks like simple play is actually early maths in action:
⚖️ Measurement & comparison — more, less, equal
⚖️ Cause and effect — “if I add more here, what happens?”
⚖️ Fine motor control — scooping, pouring, adjusting
⚖️ Concentration & problem-solving — she keeps testing until she gets it right

These are the building blocks for maths concepts she’ll meet again and again at school — but right now, it’s just satisfying, sensory fun.

Presence over perfection, always. 🌾

🌿✨ Shelf refresh alert! ✨🌿

We’ve tucked a little garden magic into our loose parts shelves this week — think wooden mushrooms, fairy stones, pinecones, gum nuts, and all sorts of open-ended treasures waiting to be discovered.

There’s no “right” way to play with these. We’re inviting little hands to sort, stack, build fairy gardens, cook up potions, or just explore the textures — however their imagination takes them today.

Why we love open-ended play like this:
🍄 Builds fine motor skills (all that pinching, sorting, and stacking!)
🍄 Sparks creativity — there’s no instruction manual, so every child’s version looks different
🍄 Encourages problem-solving as they figure out how things balance, fit, and work
🍄 Supports language development through storytelling and pretend play

No pressure, no “correct” outcome — just presence, curiosity, and a little bit of fairy dust.
