MOCCA - Manuka Childcare Centre
MOCCA is a not-for-profit early childhood education and care service. MOCCA's origins lie with the Australian Mothercraft Society, founded in 1923.
MOCCA is an EXCEEDING community-based early childhood education and care centre that has a proud 60+ year history of serving the children of Canberra. In 1963 Mothercraft Nurses were granted MOCCA and we have been providing excellent early years care and learning since that time. Child Saftey staff meeting
On Tuesday evening our team came together to deepen our understanding of what it takes to create a culture of chold saftey in our centre. We talked Compliance, Regulation, Curriculum and Child Saftey Standards.
As a team, we critically reflected on how we meet, exceed, or can improve in National Quality Area 2, and we undertook the same reflection process against the Child Saftey Standards. This self-assesment will be incorporated into our Qulaity Improvement Plan, and guide our next steps.
Part of our session was spent looking at how children sit in this space. How we build their knowledge and capacity in the area of Child Safety, their rights, and empowerment.
This looks vastly different across our age groups with some common themes around consent and respect.
Our last portion of the meeting was spent ensuring we understand the changing nature of Regulations in this space.
It was an action packed meeting with rich conversations and critical reflections.

Last week we celebrated Healthy Lunchbox week, and it was so successful that we have kept it running!!
Families have been sharing their pictures and recipes of thoughtful, balanced lunch boxes as we look to provide and share ideas amongst our community.
The foyer space has had a bowl of fruit and veggies, and it has been well-loved by many, including big brothers and sisters.
Katie Fahy's book about eating a rainbow is a favourite year in and year out and always provides information about the benefits of eating in colour.

Happy Diwali!
Our Preschool children helped Radhika create a beautiful Rangoli with diyas in our foyer.
Wishing you a bright and joyful Diwali filled with love and light.
We are pleased to share that Kara Bromley, Director of MOCCA – Manuka Childcare Centre, will be part of the expert panel at the upcoming FREE Parent Forum: Safeguarding Children in Early Education & Care.
6:00pm, Monday 13 October 2025
This important event will explore how families can help children recognise unsafe situations and know what to do when something doesn’t feel right.
Kara will join Deanne Carson, CEO of Body Safety Australia and leading child safety expert, Yvette Berry, Minister for Education and Early Childhood, and representatives from Children’s Education and Care Assurance (the ACT regulator).
This is an exciting opportunity for Kara to contribute to a vital community conversation about supporting children’s safety, empowerment, and wellbeing.
