Still counting on fingers? Still slow with the basics? The gap is right at the start.
We go back and cover it properly: counting, skip counting, tally marks, writing numbers, making ten.
They build the number before anyone asks them to write it. Because a child who can see ten can split ten, and a child who can split ten stops counting on their fingers.

Why Some Kids Fall Behind in Maths?

The most common tutoring mistake? Putting a Year 7 into Year 7 maths. If the gap is back in Year 4, that’s just more Year 7 they can’t do. Months pass, money’s spent, nothing moves.
