Quality Area 2: Children’s health and safety training

Our Managing Director and Educational Leader, Joanne, recently hosted a Quality Area 2 – Children’s Health and Safety training session for educators across our three centres.

The session was facilitated alongside our Approved Provider, Natalie, and Quality & Compliance Lead, Sumi, with a strong focus on strengthening our shared understanding and practices around children’s health, safety and wellbeing.

The training covered key areas including:
✨ Active supervision and maintaining safe environments
✨ Risk assessment and hazard identification
✨ Children’s health, hygiene and wellbeing
✨ Medication management and safe medication practices
✨ Safe sleep and rest practices
✨ Incident, injury, trauma and illness management
✨ Supporting children’s individual health needs and medical conditions
✨ Our responsibilities under the NQS, EYLF and National Regulations

It was a valuable opportunity for educators from all three centres to come together, reflect on our current practices, share knowledge and continue building a strong culture of safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement.

A big thank you to all our educators for their ongoing commitment to keeping children safe, healthy, rested and supported every day.

The future starts with us!
Sometimes appreciation can be as simple as a heartfelt thank you.
But behind every one of these gestures is something much bigger.....recognition of the incredible work early childhood professionals do every single day.
A close friend of mine once asked me, “What does an early childhood educator actually do in a day?”
It sounds like a simple question, but after nearly 40 years in early education, I know it is almost impossible to answer in one conversation.
I have witnessed enormous changes in the early childhood profession. I have seen the way we view educators evolve, and I have seen a much greater understanding of the importance of learning and development in the early years.
We know that the first five years of a child’s life are a period of extraordinary brain development. This understanding reminds us just how significant the role of an early childhood professional is because what we do today helps shape the future.
When I think about the wonderful role of an educator, these are just some of the words that come to mind:
Teacher. Caregiver. Joy-maker. Multitasker. Professional. Puppeteer. Storyteller. Inventor. Project manager. Participant. Creative. Designer. Adventurer. Humble. Mediator. Empathetic. Determined. Resilient. Advocate. And, most importantly, the advocate of the child.
Every day, educators nurture relationships, create environments that inspire wonder, listen deeply, solve problems, comfort, encourage, imagine, laugh, learn and grow alongside children.
And they do it because they believe in children.
They believe children deserve to be heard.
They believe children are capable and competent.
They believe childhood matters.
So, today, please join me in giving a massive shout-out to the incredible educators at Majura Park Childcare Centre who work so hard, care so deeply and show up every day to create joy, possibility and meaningful learning in the early years.
The future starts with us and it starts with the children in our care.
Take a moment today to thank an early childhood professional.
A message: A smile or just a simple “I see what you do.”
Sometimes, knowing that someone notices makes all the difference. “A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart.”
Thank you from your proud Educational Leader Joanne and management!

📚✨ The Magic of Book Week ✨📚

There is such beauty in the connections made over a book.

This Book Week, our children explored stories through imagination, creativity and play — becoming characters, acting out familiar stories and creating their own narratives beyond the pages.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we see children as capable and creative meaning-makers. Books become a powerful way for children to express ideas, explore relationships and make sense of the world around them.

One of the highlights was welcoming our families into the rooms to read with the children. Seeing parents and family members share stories created beautiful moments of connection and strengthened the partnerships between children, families and educators.

Because a book is never just a book — it can be a world of imagination, a conversation, a new perspective, or simply a beautiful moment shared together.

Community engagement is about building trust, fostering belonging, and creating meaningful connections.

Today, as part of Book Week, children from all our classrooms enjoyed a beautiful storytelling session at our local shopping centre.

Through our regular community walks, children have become familiar and confident with their surroundings. What once may have felt like a new environment is now a place they recognise, explore and feel connected to.

From noticing planes and beautiful blossoms along the way, to listening, moving, imagining and sharing during the storytelling session, every moment became an opportunity for learning.

These everyday experiences nurture belonging, curiosity, confidence, relationships and connection, while helping children see themselves as active members of their wider community.

At Majura Park, we believe learning truly happens everywhere — not just within our walls

National Science Week 2026

There was so much to investigate, discover and wonder about across our centre as we celebrated National Science Week and this year’s theme, “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All.”

Across all of our classrooms, children engaged in a variety of exciting, hands-on science experiences that encouraged curiosity, questioning, problem-solving and a love of learning.

Our experiences included an exciting volcano investigation with sand and dinosaurs, exploring stems and plants, planting and observing seedlings, investigating sink and float, and creating the colourful walking water experiment.

Our Jumbo children also extended their current project exploring seeds and space, making connections between their ideas, observations and the world around them.

We were also very fortunate to have one of our wonderful families, Hannah, who is a medical practitioner, join us for a special book-reading session with the children.
It was a beautiful opportunity for children to learn from a member of our community and see how science connects to everyday life.

Being part of a community means understanding and connecting with it.
During our walk of thoughts our preschool
children stepped beyond the centre gates with charcoal and paper, observing, listening, wondering and drawing what they noticed — from the buildings around them to the clouds in the sky. ☁️

Through this simple experience, children explored art, science, mathematics, communication, belonging and citizenship.

Sometimes, when we slow down and see the world through children’s eyes, we discover the beauty in the simplest things.

And construction has commenced. We are excited about the construction of our new dedicated car-park! Closer to the front entrance, and with an undercover section - we are excited and grateful to the Canberra Airport to create this easier to access car-space for us - noting there also be new parallel parking created along Catalina Drive.

We expect little-to-no impact our parents (or children) during the construction, as current car-parking will remain the same.

👩‍🍳🥣Cooking classes at Majura 👩‍🍳🧁

There’s something truly special about watching our preschool children discover the joy of cooking! Under the wonderful guidance of Chef Jelyn: today our little chefs are developing valuable life skills while having so much fun in the dining room baking cupcakes for their afternoon tea.

Cooking experiences help children build confidence, independence, and creativity. They strengthen fine motor skills, encourage early maths and science concepts through measuring and mixing, expand language as children learn new ingredients and cooking terms, and promote positive eating habits through'learning 'how ingredeints combine' to make yummy foods.
