Adulting on a Saturday. Catching up on some reading while I wait for my car windscreen to be replaced. Some incredible stories in this book on the effect of music on the brain and vice versa!

Year 12 Graduation today and my last day as a part of Jindabyne High School. To watch this spectacular group of music students graduate was a conflicting moment of pride and sadness. 10 years teaching kids from here and Snowy Mountains Grammar amongst an amazingly supportive community. To have Marley nominated for an Encore was an absolute highlight. To see how music has created such a bond amongst these teenagers - the payoff for what I do.

🎶 ENCORE NOMINATION FOR MARLEY! 🎶

What an incredible achievement for Year 12 Music student Marley J, who has been nominated for ENCORE for her showstopping HSC Music works!

ENCORE showcases a selection of outstanding HSC Music performances, compositions and musicology works from students across NSW, making this nomination an incredible recognition of Marley’s talent, dedication and hard work.

For her HSC Music performance, Marley performed:

🎤 Everyone’s Waiting - Missy Higgins
🎤 Loud - Olivia Dean
🎤 Dear Mr President - P!nk
🎤 You Oughta Know - Jagged Little Pill: The Musical

We are incredibly proud to see Marley’s performance recognised at a state level and to add another exciting HSC Showcase nomination for Jindabyne High School!

A massive thank you to Marley’s teacher, Katie Blazey, for her ongoing support and guidance. Opportunities to perform and rehearse through our Senior Soiree and Senior Showcase have also given Marley valuable opportunities to refine her performance in the lead-up to her HSC.

ENCORE will be held at the Sydney Opera House in February 2027, with the final selection process still to come. Regardless of the outcome, receiving a nomination is an outstanding achievement in itself!

Congratulations Marley, what an achievement!

We are so fortunate to have such talented students and dedicated staff at JHS who continue to go above and beyond to help our students achieve their personal best.

This quote encapsulates my teaching approach. I have been incorporating Feldenkrais technique into my teaching for over 15 years now and it freed up, not only my singing but also my approach to teaching. Treating every 'body' where they are at and handing them the skills to know 'what they are doing'. Give them the master key and they can open as many doors as they want.

Congrats Aleisha Croxford for getting the role of Tessie Tura in Gypsy. This is going to be another great QP production with excellent casting! To my other auditionees - great practice for the next performance! What an abundance of talent Canberra holds - unlike Tessie’s line:
“to be a st****er, all you need to have is no talent” ;-)

Hope you get to experience Jess’s goosebump version of I Dreamed a Dream. I’ve been lucky enough to hear a version or two. Heart and soul, beautiful voice.

The Canberra studio will be opening May 4th. I am excited to be able to have my space and resources on hand again. My happy place becomes my students' happy place. I travel back to Jindabyne once a fortnight to work with high school kids. An extra trip this week to coach them in rehearsals for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 😀😀😀

Some nails bitten last night but our Jindy girl Kesha is through to the Grand Finale of Australian Idol. She has always had an exceptional quality to her voice and performance delivery and it is a joy to have watched her grow and shine and take on, what can be, the difficult platform of reality competitions.
