SCHOOLS UPDATE: Minimal supervision arrangements for ACT public schools and preschools, 9am-11am, Thursday 17 September

ACT public schools will be operating under minimal supervision from 9am to 11am on Thursday 17 September 2026.

Families may wish to keep their children at home during that time, but minimal supervision will be available for those who need to attend.

Regular teaching and learning will begin at 11am.

The arrangement is to support Australian Education Union members to attend a paid time meeting to consider the ACT Government’s September 10 pay and conditions offer for teachers, school leaders and school psychologists.

The ACT Government appreciates your understanding and support. We remain committed to working collaboratively with staff and unions to reach an outcome that supports our workforce and continues to deliver high-quality public education for ACT students.

On Wednesday of week 6, Mount Stromlo had 68 students compete at the Secondary South Track and Field Competition. 40 students qualified for the ACT Championship which will be held in week 10 this term. A special mention goes to Lara P for breaking South Region records for the 400m, 800m and 1500m.

Our 2026 Stromfest show is starting to take shape and with 107 performers, backstage crew, artists, and creators! Last year we sold out both shows, so get in quick! Ticket sales are open now!

When: 20th and 21st October
Time: Doors open at 6:15pm for showcase of student artworks and creations. Light refreshments are available. 7pm the performing arts show starts.

Last Wednesday in week 7 was the grand final of our House Netball Championship! Congratulations to Cooleman 7/8 and Taylor 9/10 for winning. Thank you to all students who participated over the last 4 weeks, and we hope to see you next week for our dodgeball tournament!

Male students currently in Year 7 and female students currently in Year 8 who are interested in joining the BADGERS or LYRA program in 2027 are invited, along with their parents/carers, to attend an information session on Wednesday, 16 September (Week 9) in the school Library.

The information sessions will be held at the following times:

🔼LYRA Information Session: 6:00 pm

We encourage interested students and their families to come along to learn more about the programs and the opportunities available in 2027.
