Australia’s reading and maths results have hit record lows. But how does Australia compare internationally? 🌏

The latest PISA results, from the Programme for International Student Assessment, compare the performance of 15 year olds across countries and economies.

Australia scored:
🔹Reading: 491, compared with the OECD average of 461
🔹Maths: 478, compared with 463
🔹Science: 509, compared with 482

So despite recording its lowest ever results in reading and maths, Australia is still performing above the OECD average in all three areas.

Australia also remains behind some of the highest performing education systems, including Singapore, Japan and Korea, which scored higher across reading, maths and science 📈

One of the exciting experiments we run in our STEM Camp: growing mold on bread with our hands.

Children design an experiment and make predictions. Will sanitising your hands reduce the amount of mold on the bread we handle? A few days later we discuss the results.

Not only does this project highlight the importance of hygiene, but it also gives kids a chance to run the experiments themselves, make predictions and analyse the results.

What skills will children actually need in the future?

The World Economic Forum says some of the most important skills today are resilience and flexibility, leadership, creative thinking, empathy and active listening.

These are exactly the kinds of skills we practise in our Speak Up classes:

🧩 working in a team and taking the lead
💡 thinking creatively and adapting to different situations
