📢 All ACT public schools CLOSED between 8:30am and 10:30am on Thursday 24 September 2026 📢

The Australian Education Union has notified the Education Directorate that its members will take part in further protected industrial action. The next planned action is a 2-hour work stoppage next Thursday 24 September.

All ACT public schools, including specialist schools and preschools, will be CLOSED to students between 8:30am and 10:30am on Thursday 24 September 2026. The school day will commence at 10:30am.

The Education Directorate has decided to close schools to students during this time, in the interest of student and staff safety. There will be no onsite supervision during this time.

We acknowledge that school closures have significant impacts on families and these decisions are not taken lightly.

We are letting families know about this change as early as possible to help with forward planning. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

LEARNING JOURNEY

Today we welcomed families into our school for the 2026 Learning Journey.

It was fabulous to see so many families come in to see what their children have been working on, and engage with them in some learning tasks to show off what they know!

Big thank you to our teachers for getting classrooms ready, and to our community for supporting this event.

FLORIADE PERFORMANCE

What a fantastic day for our 5/6 Band, Senior Choir and Junior Choir performing at Floriade!

Our students did an amazing job, performing six songs with plenty of confidence, enthusiasm and joy. From playing the ukulele to singing their hearts out, they should be incredibly proud of their efforts!

One of the highlights was their performance of ‘You’re Welcome’ from Moana, accompanied by Key Word Sign. It was a big hit with the audience and such a wonderful way for our students to showcase their musical talents while making their performance inclusive and engaging.

Of course, it wasn't all about performing! The students also had fun exploring the beautiful flowers, enjoying the playground and checking out our year 6's wonderful creations at Gnome Knoll.

SCHOOLS UPDATE: Minimal supervision arrangements for ACT public schools and preschools, 9am-11am, Thursday 17 September

ACT public schools will be operating under minimal supervision from 9am to 11am on Thursday 17 September 2026.

Families may wish to keep their children at home during that time, but minimal supervision will be available for those who need to attend.

Regular teaching and learning will begin at 11am.

The arrangement is to support Australian Education Union members to attend a paid time meeting to consider the ACT Government’s September 10 pay and conditions offer for teachers, school leaders and school psychologists.

The ACT Government appreciates your understanding and support. We remain committed to working collaboratively with staff and unions to reach an outcome that supports our workforce and continues to deliver high-quality public education for ACT students.

SUPPORT STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

This week we have celebrated the outstanding team, that is our school support team.

Whether it is a friendly face in the front office, tending to a grazed knee in sick bay, getting a ball down off the roof, helping students to believe that they can when faced with a challenge in learning, greeting students with a smile at breakfast club or simply having fun by sharing a laugh, Theodore’s support team are a terrific example of student centredness and we are grateful to have them all at our school.
