⏳ Deferred Examinations ⌛
A deferred exam means “sitting of an examination at a time other than the scheduled time/date”. You should apply for a deferred exam if unexpected and unavoidable events, such as illness, injury, or other serious events, prevent you from attending your scheduled exam.
You can apply for a deferred exam via an Extenuating Circumstances Application.
You can use the ECA form if you did not attempt the exam, if you fell ill during an exam and abandoned it (and reported to the invigilators), or if you could not attend owing to extenuating circumstances. You must submit an ECA requesting a deferred examination within five (5) working days after the original date of the examination.
If circumstances occur that impact your ability to undertake a deferred exam, you may lodge one additional ECA within five (5) working days of the deferred exam date.
The Semester 1, 2026 deferred examination period will run for one week from Monday July 20 to Friday 24 July 2026 (i.e. the O-Week for Semester 2 2026).
If you have been approved to take a deferred or supplementary examination, you will receive an email to your university email address from the Examination, Graduations and Prizes Office with details of the exam. If you do not receive an email with exam details such as date, time and duration at least two weeks before the scheduled period mentioned above, you should contact [email protected].
Need help completing an ECA? ANUSA's Student Assistance Team can help! Contact them via our website anusa.com.au or visit our linktree if you need further assistance.

❗ Extenuating Circumstances Application (ECA)
Sometimes unexpected things get in the way of your studies — illness, family emergencies, financial hardship, cultural responsibilities, or even sudden disruptions during exams.
If this happens, you can apply for an Extenuating Circumstances Application (ECA) to ask for adjustments such as a new due date, deferred exam, alternative assessment, or adjusted weighting.
The ECA process is simple and confidential. You can apply online through ANUHub, and if you’d like extra support, the ANUSA Student Assistance Team is here to help you every step of the way.

ANU Disabilities Student Association (DSA) is undertaking an Ableism Report into current and past experiences of ableism in educational settings at the ANU. This report aims to understand the prevalence, severity, and frequency of ableism in an educational setting, and how experiences of ableism vary at ANU by college.
Responses to this survey will be analysed by the 2026 DSA committee and ANUSA staff to inform the findings and recommendations of the first Ableism Report, which will be published and presented to the University, the ANUSA, and leadership staff in Academic Colleges at the ANU. This survey is intended for current ANU students.
Part 1 of this survey aims to capture the prevalence, severity, and frequency of ableism generally at the ANU. You only need to complete this survey once. If you would like to share your experiences of ableism with specific classes, fill out Part 2 of the form.
Currently, the 2026 Survey only focuses on ableism within teaching environments. Other areas, such as student experience services and accommodation, may be explored in future surveys.
Both parts of the survey will close at 11:59pm on July 5th
The data that the DSA collects and uses from this survey will be used and presented in the 2026 Ableism Report which the DSA will publish publicly. Data will be anonymised and de-identified. We will do our best to protect your confidentiality but may not be able to guarantee it. There is no guarantee that the data you provide us will be included within the report.
Please do not share any personally identifiable information about yourself or others in your response. Please do not include any names, emails, identifiable incidents that can be attributed to persons. Where possible, use titles or roles for the person, but we may need to amend or take out any identifiable data to prevent any inadvertent defamation.
The amount of questions in this part of the survey that you fill is up to you. You can choose to share experiences with a college in regards to their culture, attitudes towards disability, and EAP compliance.
If you have questions or concerns, please see the Report FAQs post or contact the DSA co-officers.
