Here are 5 things that catch people off guard:

1️⃣ Your licence card doesn't get handed to you at Access Canberra — it's posted to your address. You get your logbook and L plates on the day and can start driving immediately.

2️⃣ The Pre-Learner Licence Course can be done completely online. You don't need to attend a classroom if your schedule doesn't allow it.

3️⃣ Your first 10 lessons with an accredited instructor each count as 3 logbook hours — so 10 lessons = 30 hours recorded. That's a massive shortcut.

4️⃣ Your supervisor must also have ZERO blood alcohol every time they sit in that passenger seat. A lot of families don't realise this applies to the supervising driver too.

5️⃣ If you're 25 or older when you get your L's, you only need 50 hours and 6 months — not 100 hours and 12 months like under-25s.
