Affected by fatty liver disease? We want to hear from you!

If you have been diagnosed with Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD - the most common type of fatty liver disease), or care for someone who has, we’d like to understand your experience.

MASLD can progress to more serious liver disease and can be an early warning sign of serious conditions including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers.

Today is Global Fatty Liver Day (11 June), and we are launching a new survey to better understand:

• How the disease was first detected
• The information and support received
• What you think policy makers need to know

Your insights will directly shape LiverWELL's work for Australians living with MASLD.

Take the survey: https://liverwell.org.au/get-involved/masld-survey/

About the name: MASLD is also known as MAFLD (Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease) and was previously called NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). We use the term MASLD to refer to this disease.

Learning never stops and neither do we.

Last week our registered nurse Joe headed to the Next Gen Nurse Practitioners conference to learn what's happening in healthcare around Australia and bring those ideas back to the ACT.

✔️ Heard from health leaders from across the country
✔️ Connected with other healthcare professionals
✔️ Introduced a session on liver health and viral hepatitis
✔️ Picked up new ideas to help support our community

Hepatitis ACT turns 30 | Canberra Daily 03/06/2026

30 years of advocacy. 30 years of community. 30 years of making a difference.

We're incredibly grateful to Canberra Daily for helping share the story behind Hepatitis ACT's 30-year journey and shining a light on the realities of viral hepatitis in our community.

The article explores who viral hepatitis affects, why stigma remains a barrier to care, and the work still needed to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.

Most importantly, it reminds us that viral hepatitis can affect anyone and that awareness, testing, treatment, and community support all play a role in getting people the care they need.

Hepatitis ACT turns 30 | Canberra Daily 31 per cent of people with hepatitis are undiagnosed. Hepatitis ACT, which turns 30 this year, urges the public to get tested.

One of the ways we are showing up during National Reconciliation Week is by attending events that create space for learning, reflection, and meaningful conversations around cultural safety. 🖤💛❤️

This week, we attended ACTCOSS - ACT Council of Social Service Inc. (Voiced Across Generations) event, hosted alongside The Gulanga Program.

The event brought together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and community workers to share knowledge and practical ways we can continue creating safer, more culturally responsive services and workplaces.

Hepatitis ACT Peer Worker, Bryce stated - “Lots of learning and growth came from this event. It was great to hear from such long standing voices such as Uncle Keith Brandy and Selina Walker. It was Tahalianna Soward who stole the show for me and her emerging voice in the First Nations community.”

Showing up in spaces like these is an important part of our ongoing commitment to listening, learning, and strengthening the way we support community across the ACT.

National Reconciliation Week is a time to learn about shared histories, cultures, and how we can all contribute to a more respectful and inclusive future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

This year’s theme, “All In”, reminds us that reconciliation requires all of us to listen, learn, and take action - which is why this week we are attending ACTCOSS - ACT Council of Social Service Inc. (Voiced Across Generations) event alongside community organisations across the ACT to learn from First Nations leaders and strengthen cultural safety in the way we support our community. 💛❤️🖤

To us, supporting reconciliation means more than one week - it is reflected in how we show up every day through respect, culturally safe healthcare, non-judgemental support, and our ongoing commitment to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the ACT.

Yesterday, we gathered leaders from across the ACT's health, policy, research and community sectors to map our pathway to eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat in the ACT by 2030.

Thank you to Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA, ACT Minister for Health, for opening the forum and reaffirming the ACT Government's commitment to elimination. Your leadership and partnership have been instrumental in bringing us to this point.

And thank you to everyone who showed up - clinicians, policymakers, peak bodies, researchers, community organisations, and people with lived experience. You spent the day doing the hard work: naming systemic barriers, identifying leverage points, and making commitments to collective action.

We left with a systems map showing how we all connect, and a roadmap built by the sector, for the sector.

30 years of advocacy. 10 years of hep C cure. 5 years to elimination.

More to come as we synthesise the day's work and share what we have built together.

Thank you to our strategic event partners: AbbVie Australia
