Congratulations to the Oceania Customs Organisation on a standout Annual Conference in Fiji last week.
On day two of the conference, Professor David Widdowson joined customs and border leaders to tackle a critical challenge: how to keep trade moving while managing risk.
His message was clear; strengthening trade security requires bold action through trusted trader programs, smarter compliance incentives, regional collaboration, and technology-driven innovation.
As global trade grows more complex, these conversations matter more than ever.

Customs administrations around the world are increasingly expected to play a central role in advancing environmental sustainability, not only through enforcing multilateral environmental agreements and facilitating green trade, but also by improving the environmental performance of their own operations.
Drawing on survey data collected from customs officers across fifteen national administrations, CCES's latest White Paper highlights a persistent gap between environmental ambition and organizational practice. While many administrations acknowledge the importance of sustainability, few have systematically embedded environmental considerations into strategic planning, governance frameworks, performance measurement, or workforce capability development.
This White Paper identifies the key challenges facing customs administrations and puts forward the case for customs administrations to treat environmental performance as a core element of organizational value and public trust.
