Australians are feeling more insecure in an increasingly unsettled world. But their views on defence and security issues are often at odds with the government's priorities.
To better understand the views of the Australian public, the UNSW Canberra War Studies Research Group conducted a survey, led by Dr Richard Dunley and Dr Nicole Townsend.
They found that people view terrorism and cyber attacks as a greater threat than major conflicts and that more than 40% of Australians support conscription.

✈️ Welcome to UNSW Canberra’s new Air Traffic Management Research and Training Laboratory.
One of Australia’s most advanced university-based air traffic management simulation facilities, it is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world aviation operations.
The laboratory features:
✅ A 180-degree aerodrome control simulation environment
✅ Surveillance and radar control capability
✅ Instructor and pseudo-pilot positions
✅ Emergency, weather and complex traffic scenarios
✅ Human factors and air traffic management research opportunities
This integrated facility will help prepare future aviation professionals with the operational awareness, decision-making skills and systems-level understanding needed for tomorrow’s aviation industry.

Have you seen the latest addition to the Canberra city skyline? 🏙️
These impressive rigs are now installing the deep foundations that will support a future hub for education, research, industry and government collaboration in the heart of the nation's capital.
At approximately 144 tonnes and capable of drilling up to 101 metres deep, they represent the scale and ambition of this landmark project.
From individual components on the ground to now standing tall, another milestone has been reached in the construction of the new UNSW Canberra City Precinct.

UNSW Canberra oceanographer Dr Christopher Chapman is using data captured by sea turtles from inside cyclones to improve forecasts 🐢
The turtles, armed with GPS and other sensors on their shells, can capture data in environments much deeper and more dangerous than humans can easily achieve.
Combining turtle data with other modelling has resulted in more accurate cyclone forecasts - something critical for keeping tropical communities safe ⛈️ 🌀
"Sea turtles can be the heroes we need to help save lives and livelihoods right across the tropics," Dr Chapman says.
