Sadly, today we say farewell to Tim Friel, our current coordinator. Tim is leaving the meriSTEM team to study and teach at Wangaratta High School through the Teach For Australia program.
Tim's departing message: "It has been an honour to support the efforts of volunteers and teachers to create and implement meriSTEM resources over the past three years. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with hundreds of keen volunteers and hope to catch up with you at a meriSTEM event in the future. Best of luck with your studies and other endeavours."
The hiring process is in it's final stages for our new Project Coordinator to lead meriSTEM through the next stages of content development and impact growth.
Until the new staff member is actively in the role in January 2022, please get in touch with us via email ([email protected]). Professor Joe Hope will be monitoring this inbox and we apologise for any delays in responding.

Thanks ANU Volunteering Society - ANUV for the opportunity for our Project Coordinator Tim to speak about meriSTEM and his own volunteering experiences at yesterday's event!
For those interested in contributing to meriSTEM, check out the year 11 and 12 science courses that volunteers have so far created to be used freely by teachers everywhere (https://courses.meristem.anu.edu.au). And email Tim at [email protected] to share your interest in getting involved!
We're keen to have volunteers support with video creation for Chemistry and Biology, plus editing YouTube transcripts for accessibility and a range of other ways to get involved.
✨ Join us tomorrow at 6pm for our The World of Virtual Volunteering: Panel Event.
📚 We are excited to have four amazing panelists coming along to share an insight into their world of volunteering, with the first being Tim Friel from Meristem Educational Resources.
🌏 After running away from Theoretical Physics research, Tim Friel has worked towards educational equity as science communicator, careers counsellor, teacher recruiter, and trainer for STEM volunteering organisations. As the meriSTEM Project Coordinator, based at ANU, Tim assists volunteer contributors to create, and teachers to implement, educational videos and activities to 'flip' high school science classrooms across Australia. 'meriSTEM' supports thousands of students with free resources thanks to the contributions of more than 300 volunteer university academics and students, plus expert teachers, since 2016.
📣 See you tomorrow at 6pm!
