‼️ Hi Friends, please read this post, sign the petition, and share widely in the community. Thank you :)

I M P O R T A N T N E W S ‼️
This week, Bill Shorten announced the plan to remove Art and Music Therapy from the NDIS from Feb 1st, 2025 using the false claim these mental health therapies do not have sufficient evidence.
This is categorically untrue with decades of substantial and robust scientific and qualitative research to show how creative therapies are efficacious for children and adults, and for a range of issues and disabilities. For example, individuals who do not communicate verbally and utilise the arts to express their rich inner worlds and lived experiencing. Case-in-point: Art and Music Therapy have been recognised by NDIS since its inception, 10 years ago! The research has only got stronger.
Additionally, all Art and Music therapists have a specialist mental health Masters degree or above, meeting strict training standards and are recognised as Allied Health Professionals in Australia alongside our peers, OT's, Psychologists, and Speech Therapists.
Talk therapies are not suitable for everyone and to remove choice from children and participants is a breach of the NDIS legislation as well as human rights and the UN Convention Rights of the child. It is also reinforcing ableist expectations which deny PWD the right for choice and control.
We ask for the support of families, parents, and the broader community to overturn this decision. If you can sign the petitions (the music therapy link is in the comments), please share it in your networks. 🙏
Words by Dr Emma van Daal and MPS team (The Melbourne Play Studio)

Post: Reparenting our parts
Caption:

Often when we talk about Parts Work or “inner child healing,” much of the advice revolves around reparenting with love, kindness, empathy, and attunement.

All of these qualities are so important to embody as we step toward coming to the aid of our younger parts.

But there is also something else that is very necessary and is often not talked about enough.

👉 And that is being a fierce protector.

For many of us, our childhood caregivers couldn’t always give us the safety, love, attunement, and connection we all need. Part of that means having someone who would protect us at all costs.

Even if we had very loving and kind parents, if they weren’t able to stand up for us or create conditions where we felt safe, then it means we now have the chance to do our healing work and be that for ourselves.

The thing about this work is that we can’t just “talk” our way into safety. We have to FEEL our way into what it’s like to be a competent protector for these young parts of ourselves.

One way we can do that is by spending time thinking about scenarios in the past where you felt capable and able. Maybe that’s an experience of protecting someone else or even an animal.

Notice what happens in your body when you think of this experience:

Do you feel bigger? Anchored? Grounded? Capable?

Continue taking time to feel into that. We want to have that competent protector part of ourselves online so that we can show our young parts we’re here now and coming to their aid.

When we do that, it creates internal safety which resolves that past trauma and allows us to take risks, be our most authentic selves, and connect fully with others and the world around us.

With kindness,
Sarah
