Our three centres recently came together for a CPR training session — a great refresher that helped us stay up to date with the latest practices and keep our knowledge current. It’s always important to continue building our confidence and skills when it comes to keeping everyone safe.

International Pizza Day is marked every year on February 9 in celebration of one of the world’s favourite foods. Originating in Italy, pizza has grown into a global staple enjoyed across countless cultures.

The day recognises its long history, wide variety of flavours, and the way it brings people together.

Our children enjoying a fun pizza making activity and especially enjoyed tasting their delicious creations at lunch time. Our amazing educators also got a special treat!

The perfect way to celebrate! 🍕

Our year has begun with an abundance of curiosity. The Waratah children were heard discussing towers, to which Jan invited a small group of children into the atelier to further explore their theories and investigations. The atelier became a space to reawaken ideas, where children began to draw, plan, and discuss.

Through discussion, reflection, and debate, the children explored what defines a tower:

“It’s really tall.”
“People can live in there.”
“Everyone can go in there.”

Their interest expanded from imaginative ideas to structural thinking. The children began theorising about how these man-made structures stay tall and secure, questioning how they are built to support people living inside them.

As their questions grew, so did the investigation. Jan reached out to families to see if anyone had knowledge of architecture. To the children’s delight, a parent, Nikki, who is an architect responded and visited the centre, meeting with the children and answering their thoughtful questions.

Nikki explained that her job is to help design apartments in towers and draw what they might look like using a ‘plan view’. The children had many questions such as ‘Why do buildings need windows?’ ‘Why do we need pipes?’. ‘Why don’t buildings fall down?’
Nikki patiently draw and demonstrated as the questions and exchanges arose.

This interaction enriched the emerging project, weaving family knowledge into the children’s learning journey.

Thank you Nikki for taking time out of your precious, busy day to come and share with our Waratah children.

We might have some budding architects among us!

Dear families, we love working together: with you and your children to protect and educate them about sun-exposure and the associated health risks. Clothing is an important element in protecting children from direct exposure to the sun:
* Loose fitting and closely woven fabrics assist in protecting children from direct exposure.
* It is recommended that shirts have a high neck or collar (to protect the neck) and long sleeves to protect arms.
* Longer style tops and shorts are preferred, no short shorts for girls.
* Sleeveless shirts, dresses and singlets are not considered as appropriate clothing to protect children form sun-exposure.

Note: Children will need to change their clothing or may not be allowed to access outdoor play.
