In 1923, Cecil Henry was named headmaster of Telopea Park School in Canberra - and this was the first kindergarten class. He ran the school with just one assistant.
The story goes that within two days of opening, 58 children were enrolled and by 1925, it boasted 400 kindergarten, primary and secondary school students and 11 teachers.
It is the oldest, still operational school in the ACT.
