🛫 “Is it a UFO?” was the first thought that crossed this pilot’s mind.

Moments later, they realised the lights ahead belonged to another aircraft approaching head-on.

This close call shows why radio checks, visual scanning and never assuming silence means the circuit is clear are all critical at non-controlled aerodromes.

📘 Read the full story via the link in the comments and see how one pilot's self-review uncovered important lessons for every flight.

Every pilot has a story, and for Robert, it all started with a three-kilometre bike ride to Temora Airport.

At just 14 years old, Robert had no family aviation background, no aircraft waiting in a hangar, just a pushbike, a curiosity about flying, and a willingness to see where it might lead. That short journey to the airport sparked a lifelong passion for aviation.

Along the way, Robert was awarded an RAAus Scholarship, helping him continue his flying journey and proving just how impactful a little support can be for an aspiring pilot.

Today, Robert is paying that support forward. As a driving force behind Youth in Aviation, he's helping introduce the next generation to the world of aviation, creating the same opportunities that inspired him as a young aspiring pilot.

It's a reminder that every aviation journey starts somewhere, and sometimes it's only three kilometres from home.
