THE BEST JOB IN OUTDOOR EDUCATION / OUTDOOR LEARNING IS ABOUT TO BECOME AVAILABLE.

The Principal position of Birrigai Outdoor School is expected to be advertised early in Term 3, triggered by the upcoming retirement of the current Principal (Peter Kent).

Birrigai is a unique outdoor school within the ACT Public Education System. Situated in a culturally significant location, Birrigai is at the forefront of delivering culturally responsive, Country-centric, teaching and learning within an outdoor education context.

The team at Birrigai is highly motivated to find the next 'right person' to lead Birrigai and is happy to provide support and advice to potential applicants (Peter will not be part of the selection process). We have prepared some preliminary context information for those wanting to know more about Birrigai.

While it is the best job in Outdoor Education, it is not the easiest. So we are giving everyone an early heads up so you can think if it might be the right position for you.

If you are interested, or know someone who might be, have a look at the information: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fnpzG4Y6IABlzaKRvg7G3nBq7jV7jarQ/view?usp=drive_link

Those interested are strongly encouraged to contact Peter for a deeper conversation.

In terms of formal requirements - it is a Principal position in the ACT Public Education system and as such the successful applicant needs to be able to be registered as a teacher within the ACT Teacher Quality Institute.

🌧️💚☺️

This week Echidnas and Quokkas preschool groups from Maribyrnong Primary School - Kaleen braved the cold and rain for a special visit to Birrigai!

While there these young students enjoyed a Walk on Country, made damper, explored puzzles and natural materials, and created a big group painting.

We couldn’t resist giving our Photo of the Week to this group of small explorers battling the weather to go on a big adventure.

When schools come to Birrigai, we take time to connect the students and staff to Country through a time of grounding and learning about this special place through a story 💚

Family and friends, our Year 4s have happily settled into camp life at Birrigai.

We began by acknowledging Ngunnawal Country and connecting with the stunning landscape through learning about the Gibraltar Rocks, as well as the ephemeral watercourse that has run directly below Birrigai for thousands of years.

Every student was given some of the water to drink and reflect on their own connection to the land. It was a powerful and meaningful way to begin our time together. 🧡
