On Wednesday, we had the privilege of welcoming the ACT Teacher Quality Institute TQI team to Birrigai for our First Nations Truth-Telling professional learning workshop. It was an inspiring day filled with deep reflection, cultural learning, and robust conversations. The team explored their vital role in reconciliation, evaluated their own processes, and discussed ways to support ACT educators in embedding cultural safety and awareness into everyday practices.
Thank you to the entire TQI team for stepping out of the office, onto Country, and bringing such open minds and hearts to this important day of PL!

So proud of you Mich - congratulations on winning Outdoor Educator of the Year for ACT and now a finalist at the National Outdoor Ed Awards 🎉

For Michelle “Mich” Allen, our next practitioner finalist, connecting people with Country begins with noticing the small things.

Mich brings more than 25 years of Outdoor Education teaching experience, including extensive experience at Somers School Camp in Victoria and, since 2016, at Birrigai Outdoor School in the ACT, where she became a School Leader in 2019.

Of note, she has helped lead the development of Birrigai’s award-winning Early Childhood Outdoor Learning Programs and was instrumental in co-developing its First Nations Truth Telling Program with local Ngunnawal people. Together, these programs have reached thousands of children, students and educators, with their impact extending into teaching practice well beyond Birrigai.

A generous mentor, Mich also shares her knowledge through professional development, conference workshops and resources for fellow educators. Her colleagues describe a leader who encourages others to move beyond their comfort zones while supporting and celebrating their growth.

Please join us in congratulating Mich!

Birrigai - If you have visited Birrigai you will know that it is a very special, a very significant place. Frequently it can take your breath away, and it is hard to replicate that in a photo. ACT Parks and Conservation Service have come very close though. Thanks for the photo.

A huge shoutout of appreciation to these fab five! Their work, often behind the scenes, is instrumental in providing our thousands of students successful, joyous and safe programs at Birrigai. In this Australian School Assistant Week we say a very big thank you to Dave, James, Ben, Claire and Adele!
And an extra shoutout to James. Last night saw him celebrated as a well deserved finalist in the ACT Australian School Based Apprentice of the Year Awards!! 👏🏼🌟👏🏼
