🤝 Reconciliation Week 2026 🤝

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, “ALL IN,” reminds us that reconciliation is not just something we acknowledge for one week each year - it is something we commit to every day.

Throughout the week, we were fortunate to take part in several meaningful events, including hosting a morning tea at the Ngunnawal Centre as well started a beautiful piece of art, a book reading at the Day Care (read by our incredible staff member Tea) and the launch of Bugiya, Nhaway, Buraadja (Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow): Stories from the Wreck Bay People.

As always, Uncle Paul had us all laughing, while the creative writing readings offered powerful insights, hope, and truth. These stories highlighted the importance of Truth-Telling and the role it plays in creating a stronger future for generations to come.

A special reminder that the ACT is the only Australian jurisdiction to recognise Reconciliation Day as a public holiday - an important opportunity to reflect, learn, and continue the journey toward reconciliation.

Congratulations Uncle Tom! What an achievement and one very well deserved. We are honoured to work under you🖤

Congratulations to UC’s Chancellor, Professor Tom Calma AO, who has been awarded ACT Senior Australian of the Year! 🎊

Inspired by his father, the Kungarakan Elder’s local, state and international work to promote the rights, responsibilities and welfare of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples over the past 45 years, has resulted in him becoming one of Australia’s most respected human rights and social justice campaigners. Professor Tom Calma has been the voice behind and reason for success of multiple Indigenous focused movements, including his contribution to the Close the Gap Campaign and Tackling Indigenous Smoking program. His position in co-leading a Voice to Parliament initiative, as well as his contribution to establishing the National Congress of Australia's First Peoples, demonstrates his strong passion and drive.

Tom will be attending the National Australia Day Awards in January 2023, alongside other recipients! 👏
