Back to Burgmann Day is returning on Saturday 29 August, and this year we're celebrating the milestone reunion years for the Classes of 2011, 2016, 2021 and 2025.

Our expanded Early Years Program is taking shape.

Staff are already meeting with students and families joining our 3 and 4 year old Preschool programs in 2027. Behind the scenes, furniture and equipment are being selected, and outdoor spaces are being designed to encourage imaginative play, exploration and discovery.

Limited enrolment opportunities remain for 2027, while families considering Burgmann for 2028 and beyond are encouraged to explore the program now.

An extraordinary and thoroughly deserved recognition for a much-loved member of the Burgmann community.

Burgmann alumnus and current staff member Jarrett Anthoney ('13) has received two major honours at the 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards NSW & ACT. After winning the Ministry of Health Achievement in Health Award, Jarrett was named the overall NSW/ACT Young Achiever of the Year.

These awards recognise Jarrett’s remarkable work through Dainere's Rainbow, continuing the legacy of his younger sister and fellow Burgmann student, Dainere. After being diagnosed with brain cancer at 11, Dainere became a passionate advocate for greater awareness and research before she died at just 15 years of age.

For more than a decade, Jarrett and the Anthoney family have transformed profound loss into meaningful action, raising funds for childhood brain cancer research while advocating for better care and support for children and their families.

Dainere’s legacy continues to hold a special place within the Burgmann community. Each year, our Year 12 students support Dainere’s Rainbow as their primary charity, with their fundraising culminating in the colourful Rainbow Run.

This recognition belongs to Jarrett, his family and the enduring legacy of Dainere. We are incredibly proud to have Jarrett as part of the Burgmann community and delighted to see his compassion, persistence and extraordinary contribution recognised in this way.

Congratulations, Jarrett. This honour could not be more deserved.

Choosing subjects for Years 11 and 12 is a significant decision, which is why pathway planning for our Year 10 students begins well before selections are submitted.

Students and families were first introduced to the subjects and pathways available at the Year 11 Information Evening, with detailed information provided to support conversations at home. Students then attended subject taster classes, giving them the chance to experience different courses before making their choices.

This term, students and their parents have taken part in individual transition interviews with key staff. These conversations consider each student’s interests, strengths and future goals, while also looking at the study habits and routines that will help them prepare for Senior School.

The aim is not simply to choose subjects. It is to help every student move into Years 11 and 12 with greater clarity, confidence and a pathway suited to them.

A school cannot keep improving unless its people keep learning.

Before students returned for Term 3, Burgmann staff came together for professional learning focused on strengthening teaching, support and service across the School.

Sessions explored critical thinking, meaningful mathematics, wellbeing, inclusion, generative AI, safety and the systems that support students and families.

Professional learning gives our staff time to step back, challenge their thinking and strengthen how they support students and families.

Investing in the growth of our people is an important part of how Burgmann continues to strengthen the experience of every student and family.

That's MIDNIGHT: The Cinderella Musical.

Opening next Thursday, this fresh, funny and thoroughly modern production brings a beloved story to life with spectacular live music, colourful characters, clever humour and plenty of surprises along the way.

Brought to the stage by over 100 Burgmann students and staff, MIDNIGHT is the culmination of months of rehearsals, creativity and collaboration. It's a production filled with heart, laughter and unforgettable moments that will entertain audiences of all ages.

Whether it's your first Burgmann musical or your first in a while, we'd love to welcome you to the Heyward Hall at Forde from 23 to 25 July.

48 pieces of music. Twenty-five student and staff musicians. Ten days to opening night.

One of the best-kept secrets of MIDNIGHT: The Cinderella Musical isn't just what you'll see on stage, it's what you'll hear.

For months, our student and staff musicians have been learning all 48 pieces that make up the show's live score. During rehearsals, the music floating through the Performing Arts building regularly drew a crowd, with students stopping by just to listen.

As one student put it, "I'd come to see the show just to hear the live music."

Now, as intensive rehearsal week begins, every rehearsal brings MIDNIGHT one step closer to opening night.

For our Year 11 and 12 Earth and Environmental Science students, learning recently extended well beyond the classroom with a visit to Port Kembla to explore how renewable energy and sustainable industry are shaping Australia's future.

The excursion formed part of the Living on Earth unit, where students investigate renewable and non-renewable resources, the implications of their use and the management approaches that support a more sustainable future.

Visiting BlueScope Steel and a range of clean energy initiatives gave students the opportunity to see these concepts in action. Throughout the day, they explored renewable energy technologies associated with steel manufacturing, visited Green House Park and the Outer Harbour, learned about the innovative energy storage solutions being developed by Green Gravity, and toured Australia's first heavy vehicle hydrogen refuelling station.

Experiences like these help students connect classroom learning with real-world applications, deepening their understanding of the environmental, scientific and technological challenges shaping modern industry.
