SCHOOLS UPDATE: Minimal supervision arrangements for ACT public schools and preschools, 9am-11am, Thursday 17 September

ACT public schools will be operating under minimal supervision from 9am to 11am on Thursday 17 September 2026.

Families may wish to keep their children at home during that time, but minimal supervision will be available for those who need to attend.

Regular teaching and learning will begin at 11am.

The arrangement is to support Australian Education Union members to attend a paid time meeting to consider the ACT Government’s September 10 pay and conditions offer for teachers, school leaders and school psychologists.

The ACT Government appreciates your understanding and support. We remain committed to working collaboratively with staff and unions to reach an outcome that supports our workforce and continues to deliver high-quality public education for ACT students.

Franklin School is developing a Master Landscape Plan to help shape the future of our outdoor spaces, and we would love to hear from our community.

This plan will guide future improvements to our school grounds, creating engaging, inclusive, and sustainable spaces that support learning, play, wellbeing, and connection.

We invite community members to share their ideas, feedback, and aspirations for our outdoor environment. Your input will help ensure the plan reflects the needs and priorities of our school community.

The draft plans are available to view at the Front Office. Please feel free to drop by during school hours to take a look and share your feedback.

📚✨ A little reminder that our Book Week Dress-Up & Parade is on tomorrow! ✨📚

We’re looking forward to welcoming our EOW Preschoolers and K–6 students as they come dressed as their favourite book characters. We can’t wait to see everyone’s wonderful costumes! 😊

It was also so lovely to see our BOW Preschoolers dressed up today and enjoying a special Book Week Parade of their own! They looked absolutely fantastic! 💕✨

Due to the weather forecast for tomorrow, we have made the decision to cancel the Franklin School Athletics Carnival. The carnival will not be postponed or rescheduled.

We recognise that this news will be disappointing for many students and families. While we considered postponing the carnival for a second time, the school calendar for the remainder of the year is already very full and finding a suitable alternative date that does not conflict with other planned activities has proven challenging. As a result, the carnival has been cancelled rather than postponed.
