Galileo Early Learning Centre has an officially completed RAP! 🖤💛❤️We are incredibly proud to announce that our centre now has our very own formal Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), officially developed and registered through Reconciliation Australia’s Narragunnawali: For anyone unfamiliar with the name, Narragunnawali (pronounced narra-gunna-wally) is a word from the language of the Ngunnawal people meaning alive, wellbeing, coming together and peace. The program is a strategic framework specifically designed to help Australian schools and early learning centres.
Our new RAP outlines practical, measurable actions Galileo will take to build strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, embed deep cultural awareness into our daily early learning curriculum, and foster an inclusive environment where all children can learn and thrive. Completing this document is a massive milestone for our educators, and we want to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt thank you to Shaini, Rippley’s mummy, for her wonderful support, guidance, and dedication in helping us finalise this plan. Thank you for walking alongside us on this journey. We look forward to putting our commitments into positive action and sharing these rich, meaningful learning experiences with your children every day.

Narragunnawali: Reconciliation in Education has tools and resources for schools and early learning services to take action towards reconciliation between non-Indigenous Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The preschoolers had a very busy and productive day today!

Firstly, some of the children helped Jane make naan bread to accompany our curry for lunch. Cooking experiences provide so many opportunities for children to follow instructions, measure, take turns and contribute meaningfully to their day.

Once the naan bread was finished, the children got straight into their numeracy learning. At present, Sarah is working with the children on developing one-to-one correspondence — the ability to match one number word to one object when counting. This is an important foundational numeracy skill that supports children as they transition into Kindergarten.

Today the children used UNO cards to identify and name the numeral before carefully colouring the corresponding number of circles. They then extended this learning using dice, counting the dots and again colouring the correct number of circles. These experiences support children to connect numerals, number names and quantities, while strengthening their counting skills, concentration and confidence.

A few children also remembered to bring in their Ooshies, so there was plenty of excitement as some swaps took place! We are very happy to have another Ooshie Swap Day next Friday so that those who forgot today have another opportunity to join in.

EYLF V2.0 connections:
Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners: Children develop dispositions such as curiosity, persistence, confidence and problem-solving as they explore mathematical concepts through meaningful experiences.

Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators: Children begin to understand how symbols and pattern systems work, including recognising numerals, counting quantities and using mathematical language to communicate their thinking.

Another wonderful day of learning through everyday experiences at Galileo — where cooking, counting, sharing and having fun all become part of the curriculum.

A couple of weeks ago (sorry, forgot to post!), our preschoolers had an amazing time engaging in pretend cake making using shaving foam.

This sensory and imaginative experience gave the children the opportunity to strengthen their hand muscles as they scooped, spread and shaped the “cake mixture.” They carefully designed their own creations, choosing and adding different “toppings,” while also engaging in rich social interactions as they shared materials, ideas and space with their friends.

And above all else… they absolutely LOVED getting messy! Lots of laughter, creativity and fun was had by us all.

This experience strongly supports the EYLF V2.0, particularly:

Outcome 1 – Children have a strong sense of identity, as they confidently express their ideas, make choices and engage in imaginative play.

Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world, as they collaborate, share resources and engage in cooperative play with peers.

Outcome 3 – Children have a strong sense of wellbeing, as they develop fine and gross motor strength through sensory play and enjoy joyful, stress-free exploration.

Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners, as they experiment with materials, problem-solve during play and extend their creativity through pretend scenarios.

Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators, as they negotiate roles, share ideas and express their thinking during play.

Messy play at its best — full of learning, laughter and imagination!

Spring is starting to pop up all around us!

Last week, our preschoolers went on a walkabout through our local community, where we spotted beautiful wattle beginning to bloom. We brought a small piece back to the centre so the children could look closely at its colour, shape and texture before using their observations to create their own beautiful wattle paintings.

Since then, the learning has continued well beyond the experience. The children are now so excited when they spot wattle while we are out and about, proudly pointing it out and bringing me little nature “gifts” they discover along the way.

These moments show us just how powerful hands-on, meaningful learning can be. A simple community walk has encouraged the children to observe seasonal changes, make connections with their environment, recall previous learning and express their ideas creatively.

This experience connects beautifully with the EYLF V2.0, particularly:

Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world, as the children develop an awareness and appreciation of their local natural environment.

Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners, as they investigate, observe, compare, remember and represent what they have discovered through art.

Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators, as they share their discoveries, describe what they notice and proudly tell others when they find wattle again.

Spring is certainly beginning to bloom at Galileo, and our children are noticing every little sign of it.
