Reconciliation Week at Galileo Early Learning ❤️🖤💛

As part of our continued recognition of Reconciliation Week, our preschoolers created a beautiful new mobile for their room. Using slices of wood, each child carefully painted the Aboriginal flag, proudly expressing their growing understanding of culture, identity and respect.

At Galileo, reconciliation is not just recognised during one week of the year — it is woven throughout our everyday practices. We continually learn about Australian birds and take time each day to thank and acknowledge the Ngunnawal people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn, play and grow.

To complete our mobile, we were gifted beautiful cockatoo feathers painted with Australian birds by a talented artist from our community. These meaningful pieces brought our creation to life and beautifully reflected our connection to Country, nature and community.

Experiences such as these support children to develop a strong sense of identity, respect for diversity and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, aligning with EYLF Outcome 1 – Children have a strong sense of identity and Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world.

This learning also reflects the National Quality Standard, particularly QA1 Educational Program and Practice, QA5 Relationships with Children, and QA6 Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities, as we foster respectful relationships, cultural understanding and meaningful community connections.

At Galileo, our village continues to learn together with open hearts and curious minds. 🖤💛❤️🪶🌿

This week at Galileo Early Learning we proudly recognised and acknowledged Reconciliation Week through connection, creativity and community.

Our children thoughtfully created beautiful clay hearts, carefully painting each one and placing a special note inside gift bags. Our preschoolers then ventured into the community to hide these heartfelt treasures for others to discover, spreading kindness, reflection and connection.

As we walked together on Ngunnawal Country, we paused to acknowledge and thank the Ngunnawal people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn, play and grow. This meaningful moment encouraged children to reflect on respect, history and the stories held within Country.

Our journey through the community took us past shops, schools, parks and playgrounds, where we embraced opportunities for exploration, play and belonging.

At Galileo, we believe children are capable and compassionate citizens who learn through authentic experiences and relationships. Experiences such as these support the principles of the EYLF V2.0, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives, Respect for Diversity and Community Connections, while nurturing children's understanding of culture, place and belonging. (ACECQA)

This experience linked strongly with EYLF Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world, as children developed respect for diversity, strengthened community connections and deepened their appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and perspectives. (ACECQA)

Our Reconciliation Week experience also reflects the National Quality Standard, particularly QA1 Educational Program and Practice and QA6 Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities, as children engaged in meaningful, community-based learning and respectful acknowledgement of First Nations peoples and Country. (ACECQA)

❤️ Walking together, learning together and growing together.

Today I introduced our Nursery children to one of our beautiful new musical instruments. Watching children explore music is always special, but for one of our nursery children, Willow, this experience was particularly meaningful. Although Willow has a hearing impairment, she is incredibly musically minded. When I begin clapping and singing throughout the day, Willow is often the very first to wiggle her body, clap her hands, smile and squeal with delight.

Experiences such as these remind us that learning is not one-size-fits-all. Music offers children the opportunity to hear, feel and connect with sound in ways that support communication, belonging and joy. Seeing the delight and engagement these moments bring makes my day.

Not many people know that within my Bachelor of Education I specialised in Early Childhood and Special Education, and across my 40 years in education I have also worked within special education settings. This has reinforced my belief that every child deserves to be included, valued and celebrated for who they are.

As educators, it is our responsibility to gently unpack children’s invisible backpacks, taking time to understand their strengths, challenges and unique ways of engaging with the world. Through connection, participation, support and acceptance, we create environments where every child can flourish.

These experiences beautifully reflect the Early Years Learning Framework, particularly Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity, as children feel safe, secure and included, and Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners, as they explore, experiment and engage through sensory and musical experiences. Music also nurtures Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators, providing meaningful opportunities for expression, connection and shared joy.

At Galileo, every child belongs and every child deserves the opportunity to shine 💛

Today we finished Family Week by celebrating all the wonderful Mums, Nans and Aunties with our annual Mother’s Day High Tea. 💐

Everyone had an amazing time spending this special time together, with the rooms filled with chatting, laughter and beautiful memories being made. These moments of connection and belonging are so important within our Galileo family and community.

A huge thank you to all the amazing Galileo staff across our three centres who helped in so many different ways to make the day so special for our families. Your dedication, care and teamwork never go unnoticed. ❤️

Experiences such as these support the Early Years Learning Framework by fostering children’s sense of belonging, wellbeing and strong connections with their families and community.

What a beautiful and meaningful way to celebrate International Family Day and National Families Week!
Honoring the vital role that portraits of their family members.
The 3D portraits look absolutely incredible—there is something so special about seeing how a child chooses a specific leaf or flower to represent someone they love.
This activity perfectly aligns with early years learning frameworks (such as the EYLF in Australia).
Identity (Outcome 1): Children developing a sense of belonging to both their family and the broader community.
Connectedness (Outcome 2): Children responding to diversity with respect and celebrating different family structures.
