It was horrific to see yet another death on the news as a result of uneducated and brutal force in physical restraint. Unfortunately this is not an isolated event; although it's not aired on TV regularly people are dying in health care settings, disability fields and educational environments all over the world including Australia. I am a firm believer that unless people are educated and trained appropriately physical restraint should never be attempted.

There are certain physiological things that happen to the human body and brain when we are escalated. It doesn't take much effort to hurt and/or kill somebody. Unfortunately many of the agencies that should know better are the biggest perpetrators, defending their actions in in various repetitive ways (usually a lack of budget to train their staff properly and keep their skills up).
