Sophia Dacy-Cole and You Are Here invite you to get your hands dirty—literally.

Petrichor is a hands-on soil and water workshop that invites participants to spend two hours in deep sensory immersion with their favourite dirt.

The term petrichor describes the smell of rain on soil, and was coined by Australian Scientists Isabel Joy Bear and Dick Thomas in a 1964 Nature paper. Petra for rock, and -ichor, variously translated as “tenuous essence”, and “ethereal fluid.” It was Bear and Thomas who first discovered that this petrichor smell would emanate from “the vast majority of dried silicate minerals and rocks.”

The workshop includes: hands-on play with wet soil, clay, moss, and rocks; guided embodied meditations; reflective writing and drawing; lots and lots of nerdy facts; and deep group chats about how rain and soil make us feel. It’s a spa day, a romp in the mud, and a crafternoon all rolled into one.

This is part of an ongoing research project, and participants will be contributing to a small body of work on how dirt makes people feel.
Participants are invited to bring their own soil, clay, moss, or argillaceous (clayey) rocks to experiment with.

YAH is delighted to be sharing Silver Spinning as part of our winter gig series. The show is tender, warm, wholesome, delving into q***r family, parenthood and domesticity without shying away from the challenges therein, but it’s also hopeful and joyful.

We saw an early development in the New Works program last year and it’s exactly the kind of stuff we like. The art itself is gorgeous, moving and intimate. There is a sense of family and community imbued in this work that feels incredibly special. You can tell that the people making the work really love each other, and there is something magical about becoming a part of the story by witnessing it.

If you know us, you know we love iteration when it comes to developing new work. This iteration shares the material created in the last development, in a format that will be a bit more like an immersive gig than a full theatre show.

You will be treated to a song-cycle played by Luciana Harrison on two guitars, a mellotron and a ukulele. Luciana Harrison is best known for fronting beloved folk-pop group Pocket Fox. Harrison’s new solo project explores her journey into q***r parenthood through her signature heartfelt lyrics and dreamy, meandering arrangements. Sounds by Sia Ahmad, who has a rich and extensive background in Australian music and has been creating idiosyncratic sounds over the last decade and more. Plus, an evolving installation with shadow puppets, textiles and projections by Tara Bromham, a textile artist and arts therapist whose practice is rooted in the traditional textile processes of natural dye, quilting, illustration, pattern design, and hand embroidery.

We’re excited to be hosting the Silver Spinning team as they share the work in this form, and to continue supporting them as they further refine and develop the work into the future.

Next week, Trust.FM are kicking off the final workshops in the You Are Here CBD Creative Workshops series!

Whether you’re already hosting your own show, keen to host one soon, or just want to learn about underground radio and spend time with good people, all are welcome. There is some amazing expertise in the Canberra community, and these workshops are guaranteed to be a super fun space to nerd out and have great chats about music and radio.

Workshop 01 — The Foundation (16 July)
Join Trust.FM radio hosts Mitch Mitch Lamb Jemist and Genevieve to explore what makes a track underground versus commercial, before diving into sourcing, organising and tagging music. Build your first playlist, learn the platforms diggers use, and explore how energy, BPM and theme shape a set.

Workshop 02 — Your Voice (23 July)
Trust.FM radio hosts Joe Roots australia , Nick Nick/Soundboy Audio (he/him) , Maarten Liquid Sunshine Sound System and Amy ωσνχη 𝘔𝘪𝘹𝘵𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘴 help you find your voice. Learn to craft a show identity, practice speaking naturally on air, plan monologues, and run smooth interviews, while mastering the stings, IDs and sweeps that give a show its signature feel.

Workshop 03 — Going Live (30 July)
Station directors Aakanksha, Jordan and Mitch cover how to apply for a broadcast slot, what the station looks for in hosts, and how scheduling works. Get hands-on with Radio Cult, learn how to build trust within the station community, and get oriented in the Trust.FM Discord.

Scenery is a night of live ambient music and atmospheric visuals, unfolding as an immersive audiovisual environment.

Slow-burning sonic landscapes, comprised of drifting tones, evolving textures and shifting light, shape a space for deep listening and sensory immersion.

This site-responsive edition will see Nicci Haynes projections expanded across multiple surfaces throughout the venue, transforming the space into an enveloping field of moving light, texture and abstraction.

Live visuals built from found objects, layered imagery and analogue experimentation will unfold alongside immersive sound works from umki , .r.t.h.o.t.y.p_an and sebastianfield .

Umki will create hyper-textural sound-worlds through electronic manipulations.

Orthotyp-a will present dark ambient movements of resonance, drone and atmosphere, shifting between density and openness.

Sebastian Field will provide layered and processed ambient guitar through a network of pedals and modular synthesis, shaping evolving harmonics, texture and slow-moving tonal environments in real time. His voice re-emerges as a textural layer in a continued tentative return to singing.

Come and zone in, or tune out - settle into the atmosphere and experience sound, light and space as a single evolving environment.

Two local organising crews - Capital Dub Style and - have brought together an incredible live lineup of .way.orkestra, , and to perform on our rooftop over the sunset hours and into the evening; joined by DJs & sound systems. They’re spreading grassroots positive vibes and energy of the reggae, dub, ska and bass-centric grooves.

Canberra may be freezing, but with heaters and dancing bodies, we’ll be keeping things hot for Rooftop Roots & Reggae.

Part crew, part label, part LARP, Dark Future Picnic Music is a Canberra-based concept art project led by a multi-disciplinary collective of DJs, musicians, designers, engineers, educators, data analysts, and visual artists. This project is driven by a single question:

How can rave culture bring community, resilience, and romance to a world beset by socioeconomic injustice, geopolitical turmoil, and a rapidly changing climate?

This event is an invitation to take part in DFPM’s first step towards answering this question. More than a launch or party, it is an invitation to face this reality and build hope from dystopia.

Join us on a six-hour musical journey into a dark future where the sounds of dub, dubby house, dub techno, dubstep, and steppers became the means for a culture of resistance.

Jazz and Friends was a jazz fusion and live art event featuring @6, .5 with , .way.orkestra, and on the decks as Garaújo. Live art was performed by and roving circus entertainment was performed by

Jazz and Friends brought a crowd of 250 attendees and achieved a colourful and buzzy atmosphere. It was the first event to emerge from two members of Blank’s community working together to host a mutual passion project: of Rush Hour 5 / alumni of Blank’s Activation Lab, and (Blank’s founder)

As an organisation, we felt we had a better feel for delivering an immersive audience experience after learning from the first event in the programming, but the setup and demand on staff was still clunky. Between intermittent drizzles of rain over the outdoor venue and a few key team members away sick, getting everything ready within the time we had was challenging. However, aside from a slight delay on doors opening, the event ran smoothly and we recorded some new processes on dealing with weather events on the fly.
