You don’t need to be flexible, fit, musical, or experienced to begin Capoeira. We’ll help you learn everything step by step in a friendly and supportive environment.

In your first classes, you may explore:

⚡ Basic movements and kicks
🎶 Capoeira music and rhythm

👥 Partner exercises and simple sequences

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Mestre Gato, one of the founders of Grupo Senzala and an essential figure in the history of Capoeira.

Mestre Gato was deeply important and present throughout the journey of our own Mestre Rodrigo Carneiro , and his teachings, support, and legacy will always remain part of our group.

This is an enormous loss for Grupo Senzala and for the entire Capoeira community. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, students, friends, and everyone whose life was touched by him.

Thank you for everything, Mestre. Your legacy will continue to live through every roda, song, and capoeirista you inspired.🙏🏽

✨ Announcing the 30 Years of Senzala – Living Heritage Festival ✨

The 30 Years of Senzala – Living Heritage Festival is coming to celebrate three decades of resistance, tradition, and ancestry in Espírito Santo, Brazil!

Under the direction of Mestre Rodriguinho and organised by Mestre Frank, the festival will bring together mestres, researchers, students, and the wider community for 5 days of Capoeira, culture, knowledge, and shared experiences:

👥 Conversation circles
🥋 Batizado and grading
✨ Cultural performances

📍 Where: Vila Velha/ES — Ponta da Fruta and Itapoã — UFES, and the Historic Centre of Vitória/ES

More than an event, this will be a gathering of generations, cultures, and stories that keep Capoeira alive as part of the heritage of the Brazilian people.

🌍✨ Capoeira, Africa and Brazil — connected through movement, music and history.

Last week we had the privilege of sharing capoeira at a the Australian National University event celebrating Africa, with representatives from different African countries in attendance and organised by .

Before the roda, we spoke about capoeira’s African roots — from the influence of Angola and Bantu cultures, to traditions such as Engolo/N’golo, the power of rhythm, the berimbau, the circle, and the way music, movement and community came together in Brazil to create this beautiful art form.

Capoeira is more than a martial art.
It is dance, fight, game, music, resistance, identity and culture.

A huge thank you to and everyone who joined us, asked questions, supported the presentation and shared the energy of the roda with us. It was a special opportunity to honour the African legacy that lives within capoeira and continues to connect people around the world.
