As part of the GTAQ 2026 Conference Geography - It's STEM, we are excited to be offering a Drone Workshop with She Maps at QUT Education on Friday 31 July.

We are now opening registrations for this workshop to any interested teacher or educator for just $40. You do not need to be registered for the conference to attend.

This hands-on workshop is a fantastic opportunity to develop practical skills with drones and geospatial technologies, explore classroom applications, and learn from the experienced She Maps team. Whether you are new to drones or looking to extend your existing knowledge, this workshop will provide valuable ideas and resources that can be taken straight back to the classroom.

We would love to fill the room and make this opportunity available to as many educators as possible.

She Maps and BHP have partnered to create Drones in Mining – three new units of work that bring real industry context into the classroom.

Year 7 – Mining Operations
Students explore how natural resources are used, how mining shapes places and global systems, and how drones support operational decision-making. Real BHP examples connect Australia's landscapes and resources to global trade and everyday products.

Year 8 – Environmental Compliance
Students investigate how mining reshapes environments, how ecosystems respond, and how drones support sustainability and rehabilitation. BHP case studies show how environmental decisions play out at multiple scales.

Year 9–10 – Mine Closure and Rehabilitation
Students examine how mining alters landforms, ecosystems, and water systems and explore strategies for long-term recovery. They a**lyse regulations and the role of drones, digital twins, and geospatial data in responsible land-use decisions.

Activities are designed with and without drones, making the units accessible to all classrooms. Each one builds real pathways into geospatial and mining careers.
