🌟 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT 🌟

Engaging with our local community is something we are very fond of at Banana Splits, and we love taking the children out into the community to visit people and local areas.

This week, Kayla, Caitlin, Andi and Cyril have taken the Kinder Room children to visit the David Newman Centre and share a story and some songs, and also to the Library to engage in some Book Week activities with Leanne.

What a super fun week with the children, celebrating all things books and literacy.
We loved sharing children's favourite stories together, and the children loved all the educators dressing up alongside them.

🦷 DENTAL HEALTH WEEK 🦷
Last week we took part in Dental Health Week activities to help the children gain understanding and knowledge about the importance of caring for our teeth.
We read stories about going to the dentist, had lengthy discussions about how to properly care for and look after our teeth, as well as discussing foods and drinks that may be good for our teeth.

We set up the large teeth models with big and small brushes so the children could practice brushing. We talked about ensuring we get right up the back of our teeth as well as on the insides too.

We made some cool art work relating to teeth, and in the Kinder Room we played a guessing game about "Sometimes or Always Foods" and had to guess which category the foods went in. We then discussed with the children why they thought each food went where, and what we can do after eating certain foods to help keep our teeth clean and healthy. 🦷

Yesterday we were super lucky to have an amazing incursion with Amy from Wildlife Exposure. Amy visited each of our rooms with her animal friends, and introduced them to us all.
Lots of children were very brave and got to pat or hold some of the animals, which was so exciting!

We got to meet Polly the ringtail possum, Alba the barn owl, Stumpy the stump tail lizard, Felicia the frill neck lizard, Zena the crocodile, Greeny the tree frog, Tommy the long neck turtle, Lisa the small python, and Arlo the massive water python! Only the Kinder Room got to meet Arlo, and some of them were a bit scared!
Amy told us lots of interesting facts about all her animal friends, which everyone was very intrigued by.

At Banana Splits, we love including incursions into our program to help extend the children's knowledge and understanding of the world around them, and to further include community in our service.
