Year 8 students participated in their Retreat last week, hearing from Kylie Davidson about The Offspring Project and the work they do in helping victims of human trafficking.

The cohort participated in keyring making and a liturgy, followed by a walk up Mt Noorat in the fresh air to finish the day.

For ‘Bullying No Way’ week we have been joyfully acknowledging compassion, kindness, respect and hard work.

Our buddy ticket system has been a great initiative across our McAuley and O’Keeffe campuses, recognising students who have celebrated the small things that can make a big difference to someone else. Pictured are some of our happy recipients!

The 38th Annual Middle School Oratory Competition was held earlier today, with nine quality speakers presenting a range of topics to the judges and audience. As always, it was a great opportunity to build public speaking skills and explore a range of interesting topics.

Well done to the finalists Cristianna C., Malka S., Jake A., Lucia C., Jess M., Tatum C., Kiara L., Elle M. and Jess M.

Congratulations to this year’s winner Lucia C. who spoke on the topic ‘Untold Stories’ and highly commended Malka S. who shared her thoughts on ‘Manners’.

We sincerely thank our judges Jodie Welsh, Craig McFarlane and Virginia Proud for taking the time to share their skills and expertise with our students. Thank you also to Sarah Gilchrist for her organisation and Luke Bourchier for providing live music during the deliberation.

Year 9 students Halle B., Athena C., Cristianna C. and Sapphire D. travelled to Anglesea last week to participate in the Mercy Education Seeds of Justice Middle Years Conference alongside students from Mercy schools across Victoria.

Building on the important work explored at last year’s conference, students continued to deepen their understanding of eco-justice and Indigenous reconciliation. Through workshops, reflection and shared experiences, students explored the interconnectedness between people, the environment and our responsibility to care for our common home.

Our students returned inspired and ready to share their learning with the wider Mercy Regional College community through MADJAM (Making A Difference, Justice and Mercy). We look forward to seeing how they continue to transform their learning into action as young people committed to justice and hope.
