🌟 Matilda Shines in Health Assistance Skills Competition 🌟
Matilda has been making her mark in her Health Assistance studies at TAFE, recently putting her skills to the test in a Work Skills Competition designed to assess students in realistic workplace situations.

As part of the competition, Matilda was required to care for an elderly person while demonstrating her knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures. One of the scenarios involved responding to a COVID-19 outbreak, where she had to correctly put on and remove PPE in the appropriate order, as well as demonstrate proper cleaning and infection-control procedures.

Matilda also had the opportunity to demonstrate her communication skills through a nurse handover, providing the next nurse with a clear and accurate overview of the resident's day and care.

Matilda shone throughout the activities, demonstrating confidence, professionalism, attention to detail and a genuine commitment to the health care industry. Her efforts were recognised with a fantastic Bronze Medal in the competition.

Congratulations, Matilda! This is a wonderful achievement and a great reflection of the skills and dedication you are developing through your Health Assistance studies. We look forward to seeing where these skills take you next!

Sports Colours Day was held at the Junior and Senior Campuses on Friday 18th September with Prep-Year 12 students coming dressed in their favourite team colours and enjoying a range of sports-themed activities throughout the day.

The highlight of the day at the Junior Campus was the special Staff/Parents vs Year 6 Students soccer match at lunchtime which is always a fun way to finish the term. All money raised will be donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Senior Campus students embraced the opportunity to wear their favourite sporting colours, enjoy a barbeque lunch and come together to support Lachie Stephenson’s Cure Brain Cancer for Stevo fundraiser, with all funds raised going to the rockstar researchers at the Brain Cancer Centre.

What a night we had last night at our Junior Campus Concert, Music Through the Decades! Our talented students took us on a spectacular musical journey through the decades, entertaining many with an incredible range of songs, dances and performances. From the rock ’n’ roll of the 1950’s through to the hits of more recent times, each class brought their own energy, enthusiasm and personality to the stage, creating a night filled with music, memories and plenty of fun. Classes embraced the decade they were representing and the audience thoroughly enjoyed being taken back to a hit song that evoked memories for so many.

The concert was the culmination of weeks of practice, preparation and excitement, which has made Term 3 such a special one for our students. Last night saw many brave nerves, perfect dance moves and experience elation by showcasing their polished performances to family and friends and our Year 5/6 students did a brilliant job setting the scene for our journey through the decades. They brought confidence and creativity to their roles as our time-travelling guides and their skits ensured the audience was taken on a journey where each class performance starred.

Our VCE VM students recently headed out to the Naroghid school site for a working bee and day of hands-on learning. Students worked together to cement the footings for a small storage shed. They also spent time cleaning up the area, removing sticks and debris from around the fire pit and the pathway leading into the site, helping to make the area safer and more welcoming for future use.

Students enjoyed a well-earned barbeque lunch, providing an opportunity to relax, socialise and reflect on what they had achieved. Students completed this work as part of their unit on addressing issues affecting our local community. It follows on from their research into the rising cost associated with school camps.

Year 6 GALS students proudly presented their Southern Bent-wing Bat projects at the Girls as Leaders in STEM (GALS) Project Launch held at Deakin University’s Warrnambool Campus last night.

The event celebrated the hard work and innovation of students who have spent the term investigating real-world challenges through STEM learning. Working as a team, the six girls researched the Southern Bent-wing Bat and developed creative solutions to help protect this unique and endangered species and its habitat, such as the white nose fungus spray, a garden for the bats to get food from and a new card game called Buno.

The girls confidently shared their ideas and findings with teachers, families, industry representatives and community members, demonstrating skills in leadership, teamwork, communication and problem-solving.

The launch marked the end of months of learning and provided students with an opportunity to showcase their projects to a wider audience. Their project posters will also be on display at Gateway Plaza Shopping Centre from Monday 21st-Monday 28th September, allowing the broader community to celebrate their achievements.

Camperdown College is incredibly proud of the students’ dedication, creativity and passion for STEM, and congratulates them on representing the school so positively throughout the program.

Our three school houses have come to life in a spectacular new mural!

Gnotuk, Bullen Merri and Purrumbete are now proudly represented at the Junior Campus, with each house showcasing local wildlife and plants connected to the lakes that surround our school.

To help develop the identity of each house, our 2025 and 2026 House Captains spent time exploring the local environment with Becky McCann, past student and member of Friends of Mt Leura. Becky generously volunteered her time, sharing her knowledge of the local plants, animals and wildlife and helped students explore the species found around our local lakes.

There was plenty of discussion and deliberation, with some strong contenders along the way, including the Growling Grass Frog and Hairy Burrowing Crayfish, before students and staff settled on the final choices:

Gnotuk – Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo & Silver Banksia
Bullen Merri – Crimson Rosella & Callistemon
Purrumbete – Pelican & Water Ribbon

With the mascots chosen, it was time to bring them to life.

Local artist Jimmi Buscombe took the final ideas and transformed them into a large-scale mural on the wall of the BER building. Over several days, students and staff watched the artwork develop, as the three house mascots and their accompanying plants gradually appeared. It was exciting to see the designs move from an idea to a finished artwork that now has a permanent place in our school.

The mural is a wonderful celebration of Gnotuk, Bullen Merri and Purrumbete, reflecting the local lakes, wildlife and environment that helped shape the identity of our three houses.
