Widgets Early Learning Centre

The children loved this Incursion! Thank you Swim Experts for your time and effort.

Yesterday, the fire and rescue team from Campbelltown Station came into our centre to speak to the children about fire safety. They gave some information to the children regarding smoke alarms, stop, drop, cover and roll and explored fire equipment with the children.
The children also each got to experience using the fire hose on the truck. This was an extended experience based on the response children had from our Fire Brigade thank you card drop off, as part of our project on giving back to the community. This was such a great learning experience for the children and we can’t wait to further explore this interest with the children through planned and engaging experiences 😊

Community Involvement

Today Miss Nat delivered a beautiful card and chocolates to our local Firefighters at Campbelltown Fire Station.

They are a team who have supported us tremendously over the years, by attending our Christmas celebrations, coming in for incursions and running Fire Safety training for our team. It was a small gesture of thanks today that propelled our Butterflies into a day of giving thanks - children created their own cards for other members of our community, and collaborated in a mind mapping task of other community members to reach out to.

Children also participated in a spontaneous experience of putting out a fire in their classroom. Role play is an effective way of creating real life experiences for children to learn from.

Thank you again to Campbelltown Fire Station for their continued support of Widgets ELC and for everything they do for the local community. Activity packs are going home with children today and the teddy bear we've been gifted will be a little friend to our Butterflies all year.

Sensory path - exploration of touch today in the Butterfly room.
The toddlers watched on and had to join in on this fun activity.
Providing children with experiences that bring them in tune with their senses promotes self regulation of emotions and a sense of being in tune with their own body.

NAIDOC Week
Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up!

We were so privileged to have the Torres Strait Islander community dance group, Urban Zenadth Kes, perform for us this week.

Children were able to watch an incredible performance and take part in an interactive dance and song, while also learning about the instruments used in the Torres Strait culture.

The children watched in awe and were able to try the instruments themselves. They were also able to try on some costumes and partake in traditional face painting as part of this workshop.

A very special thank you to our very own Miss Jess who is part of this group and who performed for the children on the day. What an incredible experience!
