Our History Club members recently went on a journey to Ancient Greece to explore one of the world's first phonetic writing systems! Students discovered the fascinating history behind the 24-letter Ancient Greek alphabet and how it shaped language as we know it.

To bring the past to life, everyone got hands-on with some air-drying clay to sculpt their very own miniature artefacts. Students carefully etched out their own names using the ancient letters, beautifully combining creativity with historical discovery.

It was a fantastic way to develop a deeper appreciation for ancient civilisations while making a little history of our own!

Big news! Two of our amazing students are heading to Parliament.

Congratulations to Hannah, Yr 12 and Celeste, Yr 10 for being selected for the prestigious 2026 Youth Parliament programs, marking a historic 40 years of youth civic leadership in Australia.

Celeste & Hannah are taking on the NSW Youth Parliament this July, working on the Women's Affairs Committee to draft and debate a powerful Youth Bill addressing domestic and family violence reform.

Hannah has also achieved the rare honor of being selected for the Australian National Youth Parliament this August! Representing the electorate of Hume, she is one of only 150 students chosen from over 2,000 applicants nationwide.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Ellie, Year 10 and Leila, Year 11 for outstandingly representing Wollongong at the NSWCCC Soccer Championships.

Away from the pitch, the girls had a fantastic time building team spirit, forging new friendships, and reconnecting with players from across the region. During the tournament, both Ellie and Leila put on stellar performances for the Open Girls team. The squad matched it with the top sides in every game, showcasing incredible teamwork, a willingness to learn, and a knack for scoring quality goals, with Ellie hitting the back of the net a couple of times! 🥅

The competition was tight, and the Wollongong team played brilliantly to finish joint first in their pool, unfortunately missing out on the grand final by just a single goal on count-back. While it is a heartbreaking way to end such a strong campaign, we commend Ellie, Leila, and the entire squad for their skill and determination.

You represented our school community beautifully, and we cannot wait to see you lace up your boots again next season. Well done, girls!

Our Year 11 cohort recently stepped away for their retreat, coming together for a rewarding experience focused on connection, reflection, and community.

Stepping away from the pressures of school and going entirely device-free allowed students to slow down and get to know peers they might not normally interact with. The days were filled with meaningful moments, from small-group discussions about relationships and a blindfolded trust walk, to quiet journaling and a student-led worship session. There were also plenty of emotional highlights, including an uplifting affirmation activity and surprise letters from parents.

Of course, there was no shortage of fun! The energy was high during a team 'riff off' musical battle, and creativity took center stage as students designed toilet paper dresses for a hilarious runway show. 🎤💃

Ultimately, the retreat was a perfect break from a busy term. By stepping outside their normal routines, the students formed new friendships, strengthened existing bonds, and created lasting memories as a cohort.

Last Friday, 2025 graduate Mackenzie was officially honoured by NESA at the Young Writers Showcase. Her outstanding short fiction piece, "Across the Burning Frame," was one of just 18 student works selected for publication from the entire English Extension II course across New South Wales.

The prestigious event was held at the State Parliament building in Sydney, where NESA CEO Mr Paul Martin and Ms Julia Finn MP praised the exceptional achievements of these HSC students, officially welcoming them into the ranks of published authors.

Mackenzie celebrated this remarkable milestone alongside her proud parents and her English Extension II teacher, Ms Newman.

In a beautiful tribute in her author's note, Mackenzie reflected on the impact of her time at St Patrick's:

"At my all-girls high school, classrooms and friendships were grounded in debate and mutual support, encouraging me to question, challenge and create... My major work is... a testament to dialogue and to the women who helped me step fully into the frame, into voice, agency and authorship."

We are incredibly proud of Mackenzie's dedication to excellence and this outstanding achievement. We look forward to seeing where her talent, creativity and passion for writing take her next.
