Letting creativity take centre stage 🎨

Every week, our students take part in a mindfulness activity, focusing on a calming and reflective task for their wellbeing.

We recently got out the art supplies and created beautiful paintings while checking in on one another. We love seeing our students connect, both with themselves and their peers πŸ’š

Students take charge of their budgeting skills πŸͺ™

Our Day College students have been using our Mini Woolies classroom to develop their skills their grocery shopping.

They create a budget, stick to a shopping list, and practice the communication and money skills needed at the checkout.

Plus, the students behind the register have the chance to step into a retail role, giving them a unique experience to support their future search for employment πŸ›’

Developed in partnership with Woolworths and launched in 2025, our Mini Woolies is the first on the Sunshine Coast! It’s a hands-on learning space where our students can develop real-world skills in a safe and supportive environment πŸ’š

🏰 Saturday adventure at Bli Bli Castle 🏰

Every Saturday, our Boarding College students have the opportunity to put their independence skills into practice, using their lessons in travel, money management, and communication to plan a fun outing.

Our students recently chose to visit Sunshine Castle and had a great time exploring the medieval museum. Some even took the opportunity to dress up and fully embrace the fairytale-like experience πŸ›‘οΈπŸ‰πŸ‘‘

πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ Jack’s building his confidence, in and out of the water πŸ’š

Boarding College student Jack loves to swim and regularly visits the local pool.

During his time at STEPS Pathways College, his confidence and independence have grown. Once preferring the support of a College trainer, Jack now plans his own visits to the pool and travels by bike.

It’s a joy to see Jack embracing three of our ten key areas of learning through his swimming routine:

βœ… Healthy living and personal wellbeing
βœ… Recreational planning and participation
βœ… Community connections

Keep it going, Jack! πŸ‘

🌟 Student voices making a difference 🌟

Students Bella and Lachlan have joined Sunshine Coast Council's All Access Abilities, a focus group that works alongside Council to help make events and public spaces more accessible for everyone in the community.

Bella and Lachlan joined the committee to ensure lived experiences are heard and to help drive positive improvements in the community they live in.

As part of our curriculum, students are taught the importance of self-advocacy, and Bella and Lachlan’s involvement is a fantastic example of putting those skills into action beyond the classroom and making the Sunshine Coast community a more inclusive and accessible place to live πŸ‘πŸ’š

πŸŽ™οΈ On air and loving it!

Boarding College students Rio and Nisha recently had the exciting opportunity to feature in a radio ad for Steps for STEPS, our walking challenge fundraiser led by STEPS Pathways Charity.

Rio and Nisha did a fantastic job, bravely stepping into the studio for a fun (and slightly challenging!) recording session. We were thrilled with the final result and so proud to hear their voices on the radio helping to raise awareness of the fundraiser.

At STEPS Pathways College, students are empowered and encouraged to challenge themselves and try new things, knowing that the College trainers and team members are supporting them every step of the way.

Rio and Nisha had the courage to give it a go, and now they have more confidence to take on the next challenging yet rewarding opportunity that comes their way πŸ’ͺ

We’d like to give a huge shoutout to announcer Mikey and the 91.1 Hot FM team for welcoming us into the studio and helping us spread the word!

Well done, Rio and Nisha! πŸ‘πŸ“»

Growing our gardening skills 🌱

Our Day College students have been honing their skills in the garden, learning to grow their own produce for healthy living while enjoying a mindful activity.

They recently focused on composting, turning their rubbish into delicious fuel for the worms. Recycling biodegradables is a very rewarding way to look after the environment and boost your plants’ growth 🌻

🍴 Nacho average lunch!

Every month, our students plan and prepare a College Connect Lunch for the STEPS team members.

Yesterday, we were joined by Kendall Hatcher MP, State Member for Caloundra, Sunshine Coast Foodie, and other special guests πŸ’š

Every meal purchased helped us raise money for a new coffee machine for STEPS CafΓ© and Garden Centre.

So, what was on the menu for May?

🍽️ Beef nachos served with salsa and a trio of sauces
🍫 Churros served with cinnamon sugar and chocolate sauce

Lately, the students have been going the distance and turning their rec room into a makeshift restaurant. The customers enjoy full table service, complete with refreshing mocktails and conversation starters.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a great lunch, and thank you to our amazing students for putting their skills into practice and preparing an amazing meal and experience!
