Volunteering Australia's National Volunteer Week wrapped up today, running from 18 May to 24 May 2026. To mark the occasion, we are celebrating the incredible achievements of our Year 10 students throughout 2025. Before finding their place at Kairos Caloundra, many of these young people faced significant challenges and were at risk of disengaging from their education. Traditional schooling models do not always serve every learner, which is why our curriculum is intentionally designed to re-ignite a sense of purpose through the delivery of the Certificate II in Active Volunteering.
We deliver this practical qualification because shifting the focus from personal challenges to helping others can be transformative. By serving the community, our students realise they have valuable strengths and kindness to offer the world, while simultaneously developing essential, transferable employability skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Crucially, active volunteering bridges the gap between our young people and the local region, breaking down social isolation and fostering deep mutual respect.
Have a look through the slides to see the incredible impact of our Caloundra students during 2025, from supporting Sunshine Coast Councilโs Library+ Caloundra to protecting our local wildlife with Turtle Care.
We are incredibly proud of our students, they are proof that with the right support, an inclusive environment, and a chance to give back, young people can completely rewrite their stories. Thank you to all the local Sunshine Coast organisations that partnered with us to mentor, welcome, and champion our students!

Year 10 Art students have launched into their denim jacket projects this term! ๐จ
Building on last termโs work, they developed design briefs and explored preliminary concepts inspired by themes such as identity, popular culture, and music. This week, they have been mapping out key design elements in preparation for applying a range of techniques to bring their final pieces to life. ๐ถ๐๐๐
This project has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Kairos community members, along with additional jackets sourced from local thrift stores and the wider community. Thank you for your support! ๐

A big shoutout to our amazing Year 10 students who took part in the Parent to Parent Qld P.A.T.H program this Semester. ๐
The P.A.T.H (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) program is a dynamic and empowering planning process designed to support young people as they map out meaningful goals and futures.
During the P.A.T.H. session, the student is guided through a series of reflective questions to explore what their life could look like after Year 12. The process helps them identify their personal goals, map out the steps to achieve them, and recognize their circle of support.
Pictured here is Ella, who had the opportunity to explore her journey, while building confidence, making connections, and discovering more about herself along the way.
Weโre so proud of the way our students represented themselves. Thank you again to Parent2Parent for their amazing resources and creating a memorable space for our young people. ๐

As part of their Term 2 Social Community and Studies unit, Food and Nutrition, students participated in an activity where they estimated the number of teaspoons of sugar in a range of drinks. ๐งโ๐ฌ
Did you know that there are 16 teaspoons of sugar in one 600ml bottle of Coca Cola?! ๐ฑ

Last week the Kairos Tribe were thrilled to have a special guest, Alana, join us for our Tribal Lunch! ๐คฉ
Alana is the editor of the Caloundra Chronicle - the amazing bimonthly magazine showcasing local history, local news, and local stories. ๐ฐ
Alana generously shared her knowledge and experience running a magazine, especially with our students with a keen interest in photography, graphic design, history, and journalism. ๐ทโ๏ธ
Thanks for visiting us, Alana, and we are looking forward to future collaboration! ๐

Finding a learning environment where a young person feels truly seen can be life-changing. Our focus on individual wellbeing and flexible learning helps students re-engage and thrive.
All our Kairos communities are wonderful, and we would love for you to help us share the news regarding our upcoming Open Day at Kairos Community College Nambour. If you know families in or near Nambour who are looking for a supportive environment, please share this post with them.
The Nambour campus is currently accepting enrolment referrals for Year 10, Semester 2 2026. Places are limited due to our intentionally small community, and the campus will expand to include Year 11 in 2027 and Year 12 in 2028.
Encourage them to take the first step by registering to attend the Kairos Nambour Open Day to see how we can support their young person's journey!
