Book Week is finally here! 📚✨ Our foyer has been transformed and the doors are wide open. Come step inside, explore the displays, and celebrate the magic of reading with us all week long!

📚🎶 Book Week is Next Week! 🎶📚

The countdown is on! Book Week will be celebrated at Goodstart Calliope from Monday 24 August to Friday 28 August, and we are so excited to share this special week with our children and families!

This year's CBCA Book Week theme is:

✨🎵 Symphony of Stories 🎵✨

The magic behind this beautiful theme is that every story has its own unique voice. Just like a symphony is made up of many different instruments working together to create something wonderful, stories bring together different characters, adventures, emotions, cultures, and experiences. When we read together, we build imagination, empathy, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

At Goodstart Calliope, Book Week is one of our favourite celebrations of the year! We love seeing the excitement on the children's faces as they explore stories and bring their favourite book characters to life.

🌟 We encourage all families to get involved and help your child dress up as their favourite book character. We can't wait to see everyone's amazing costumes and creativity shine. Whether your costume is homemade, simple, or spectacular, we love seeing every child's unique interpretation of their favourite story.

And the fun doesn't stop with the children...

🎭 Our educators will be joining in the excitement too! 🎭

We are looking forward to dressing up alongside the children and celebrating a week full of books, imagination, literacy, and fun.

📖💛 Let's come together and create our own Symphony of Stories as we celebrate the wonderful world of books from Monday 24 August to Friday 28 August.

We can't wait to see all of the fantastic character costumes!

Happy reading! 📚✨

💙 Filling Buckets with Kindness in Kindy! 💙
Our Kindy children have been exploring kindness and friendship with Miss Laine through the beautiful story Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
After reading the story together, the children discussed what it means to be a bucket filler and how small acts of kindness can make others feel happy, valued, and cared for. The children then created handprint artworks and shared their own ideas about what kindness looks like in everyday life.
From helping a friend, using gentle hands, playing together, sharing toys, and singing songs with others, the children identified many wonderful ways they can fill someone else's bucket.
This learning experience supported the development of empathy, emotional awareness, communication skills, and a strong sense of belonging within our Kindy community. It also encouraged the children to recognise the positive impact their actions can have on others.
✨ Learning Highlights
🖐️ Creating handprint artwork to represent kindness
💙 Exploring empathy and caring for others
🗣️ Sharing ideas and participating in meaningful discussions
😊 Building positive relationships and friendships
🌟 Developing a strong sense of belonging and community
We are so proud of the thoughtful ways our Kindy children are choosing to fill the buckets of those around them each day!
A big thank you to Miss Laine for inspiring kindness, compassion, and connection through meaningful learning experiences. 💙

🌟 Celebrating Who We Are in Pre-Kindy! 🌟
Our Pre-Kindy children have been exploring the important concepts of identity and belonging with Miss Mel, creating beautiful self-portraits that celebrate what makes each of them unique.
Using mirrors, careful observation, and lots of creativity, the children drew themselves, identifying their facial features and sharing what they love about themselves. Through this experience, the children engaged in meaningful conversations about who they are, their families, their interests, and their place within our Pre-Kindy community.
Creating self-portraits supports children's developing sense of identity, self-confidence, and belonging while also strengthening fine motor skills, creativity, and early drawing abilities. It has been wonderful to see each child's individual personality shine through their artwork.
✨ Learning Highlights
🎨 Exploring creativity and self-expression
😊 Developing a strong sense of identity and self-worth
✏️ Strengthening fine motor and drawing skills
🗣️ Encouraging communication and sharing personal experiences
❤️ Building a sense of belonging within our Pre-Kindy community
We love celebrating the unique qualities that make each child special and watching their confidence grow as they learn more about themselves and those around them.
💛 Thank you to Miss Mel for supporting our children to develop a strong sense of identity and belonging through meaningful learning experiences.

🌱🥕 Growing Curious Minds in Senior Toddlers! 🧅🌱
Our Senior Toddlers have been busy little scientists with Miss Mika and Miss Yas, exploring how food grows through a hands-on vegetable investigation!
Using glass containers, the children have been growing potatoes, onions, and carrots, allowing them to observe the changes happening right before their eyes. The clear containers have sparked lots of curiosity as the children watch roots develop, discuss what plants need to grow, and make predictions about what might happen next.
By caring for and observing the vegetables each day, the children are developing an understanding of nature, life cycles, and where our food comes from. These experiences also encourage critical thinking, observation skills, and a sense of responsibility as children nurture and care for their growing plants.
✨ Learning Highlights
🌱 Exploring how plants grow and change over time
🥕 Learning where food comes from
👀 Developing observation and prediction skills
💡 Encouraging curiosity, inquiry, and scientific thinking
💧 Building responsibility through caring for living things
A big thank you to Miss Mika and Miss Yas for creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire our Senior Toddlers to explore, investigate, and connect with the natural world around them.

The children enjoyed using their senses to smell, touch, squash, roll, and investigate the different herbs and textures, sparking curiosity and encouraging meaningful conversations about nature and food.
Through these hands-on experiences, the children are developing sensory awareness, fine motor skills, creativity, and an early understanding of sustainability and the natural world around them.
