🎉 85 YEARS YOUNG & STILL KILLING IT! 💪🏼🔥
Everyone, meet Stan! 👏🏼
Stan turned 85 last week, and what better way to celebrate than doing what he does best… getting in the gym and pushing some serious weight! 😎
Watching Stan smash out sled pushes is exactly why I love strength training- age is not a reason to stop moving, it’s a reason to keep getting stronger.
And here are some pretty cool science facts about strength training as we age 👇🏼
🧠 Strength training helps protect muscle mass- as we get older, we naturally lose muscle and strength (sarcopenia), but resistance training can help slow this process and maintain function.
🦴 Your bones respond to loading too! Resistance and weight-bearing exercise can provide the stimulus needed to help maintain bone strength.
⚡ Strength = independence. Being stronger can make everyday things like getting out of a chair, climbing stairs, carrying shopping and getting off the floor easier.
🧠 Your nervous system still adapts. Strength gains aren’t just about bigger muscles- your brain and nervous system get better at recruiting and coordinating your muscles too.
❤️ Exercise isn’t just about muscle. Regular physical activity supports cardiovascular health, balance, mobility and overall physical function.
🔥 And perhaps my favourite fact…
You don’t have to be young to get stronger. You just have to keep giving your body a reason to adapt.
85 years old and still putting in the work.
That’s Stan. ❤️
Happy belated birthday, legend! 🎂💪🏼
