What a wonderful Term 1 it has been getting to know our amazing 2026 children! πŸ’› This week, we had so much fun with chocolate-scented playdough and decorating our very own bunny ears for our last day Easter Bunny egg hunts 🐰🍫

Reminder: We will be closed for the Easter school holidays from Friday 3rd April to Sunday 19th April. Kindy resumes Monday 20th April. Wishing all our families a happy and safe Easter! 🐣πŸ₯šπŸ’

What a wonderful Welcome Day we had on Sunday! πŸŒΏβ˜€οΈ

It was so lovely to see families connecting and getting to know each other. A big thank you to our amazing Social Committee for organising such a fantastic afternoon.

Thank you to Cairns Magical Face & Balloon for the beautiful face painting, BubbleLabs AU for the magical bubble entertainment, and for the incredible animal encounters. We’re also so grateful to Whitfield State School for providing the perfect venue.

The children had a great time exploring the nature playground, and the toy and bake sales were a big hit β€” thank you to all the families who generously donated toys and baked goods.

We hope everyone had a wonderful afternoon! πŸ’›

Kindergarten is a magical year for children and families. With the much-awaited start of term one kicking off this week, we want you and your child to feel confident and ready to enjoy the experience of learning at Whitfield Community Kindergarten from the very first day πŸ€©πŸ€ΈπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Here are a few general steps from our drop-off procedure that you can chat about with your child so that they know what to expect each morning:

✨ Sign your child in on the iPad.
✨Apply sunscreen and record this on the sunscreen register. Encourage your child to play in the shade for the first 20 minutes.
✨ Help your child put their bag in their locker, hang their hand towel and place their sheets in the sheet basket.
✨ Help your child put their lunch in the fridge/baskets provided. Remember to remove it from any insulated bags first.
✨ Hat on and we are ready to play. Push your child on the swing, read a book together, or choose another activity they enjoy while they settle in for the day.
✨ Share any news or important information with your child’s teachers/educators.
✨ Say goodbye and let your child know when you will return.

We hope your bags are packed. Kindy 2026 kicks off TOMORROW! πŸ€©πŸ‘πŸ½

To ensure a smooth first day, double-check that your child’s bag is packed with:
πŸŽ’ A wide-brimmed hat, with no chin strap
πŸŽ’ Cup
πŸŽ’ Spare changes of clothes (learning can get messy!)
πŸŽ’ 3 x lunchboxes packed with nitricious food for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea
πŸŽ’ Bed sheets for rest time

We can’t wait to see your smiling faces as we embark on a year of learning, joy, play, and kindy magic! βœ¨πŸ€ΈπŸΏβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸ“šβœ¨ We had such a fun week celebrating Book Week 2025 at Whitfield Kindy!
Some children dressed up, others brought in their favourite books, and we even had a special drama lesson. The teaching team joined in tooβ€”dressing up as the Three Little Pigs and putting on a play before the children had a turn acting it out. 🐷🎭
A week full of stories, imagination and lots of laughter! πŸ’›

πŸ”¬βœ¨ Science Week Adventures! βœ¨πŸ”¬
This year’s theme is Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language. We searched for patterns in nature 🌿🐚 and discovered how they help animals and plants grow, stay safe, and thrive. Then we got hands-on with colourful celery, fizzy bicarb-and-vinegar volcanoes, magical jellybean colour swirls, and a spectacular Mentos-and-Coke explosion! πŸ’₯ What an out-of-this-world week of science fun! πŸš€

Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Fostering respect for diversity and a sense of belonging are important parts of our Kindy Philosophy which we develop throughout the year. However, Harmony Day allows us an extra opportunity to communicate the importance of cultural diversity and inclusivity.

Last week, families were encouraged to share their cultural backgrounds on our class world maps. At group times, we read stories, learned new songs and looked at our world maps, discussing connections we had with places around the world, and within Australia. Each class collaborated on group artworks that celebrated their unique cultural connections. Representing harmony and inclusivity, the colour orange was the star of the week in many of our activities. πŸͺπŸ₯»πŸŒπŸ₯’🧑
