What a fantastic way to celebrate 150 years of Cairns!
Study Cairns was proud to participate in the Cairns 150 Parade, with around 50 students from JCU: James Cook University, Australia, Frontier Education: RTO No 110080, Imperial Institute of Sydney, CQUniversity Australia, CCEB Cairns College of English & Business - RTO 40520 and ACTIT - Australian College of Tourism and Information Technology joining us to mark this very special milestone for our city.
Embracing the theme “Fun Under the Sun,” our students brought plenty of energy, colour and smiles to the parade.

A special thank you to our Study Cairns Student Ambassadors, who took a leadership role on the day, helping bring students together and making sure everyone felt welcomed and part of the celebration.

Events like this remind us why Cairns is such a great place to study, live and connect. For international students, being part of community celebrations creates a real sense of belonging and an opportunity to build connections beyond the classroom.
Thank you to Cairns Regional Councill and the Mayor Amy Eden for their wonderful ongoing support, and to the wider Cairns community who came along, said hello, cheered and made our students feel so welcome.
We were very proud to see our students representing Cairns’ diverse international education community and being part of such an important moment in our city’s history.
Happy 150 years, Cairns!

This week, it was wonderful to welcome another group of international students to the Student Hub as they begin their studies and their Australian adventure. 🌏

Orientation is a great opportunity for students to settle into life in Cairns, meet new people, and learn more about the support and services available to them during their time in Australia.

We loved seeing everyone getting involved, making connections, and taking their first steps towards building their new community here in Cairns. 🤝

We’re excited to support each student throughout this next chapter and wish them every success as they begin their studies!

Welcome to Cairns — we’re so glad to have you here! 🌴

🇮🇩 Celebrating Indonesian Culture and Community in Cairns!
Study Cairns was delighted to be invited by the Cairns Indonesian-Australian Association Inc. (CIAA) to take part in the celebration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day this August.
A big thank you to Astri, President of CIAA, and the wider Indonesian community for welcoming us and including Study Cairns in such a special celebration.
We were particularly delighted to connect Indonesian international students studying in Cairns with their local Indonesian community, giving students an opportunity to celebrate their culture, meet new people and strengthen their sense of connection and belonging while studying away from home.
The day was filled with traditional Indonesian food, music and cultural performances, including the beautiful Nusantara Dance performance, showcasing Indonesian culture through movement, music and teamwork.
Cairns is home to students and communities from around the world, and occasions like this demonstrate the important role our local multicultural communities play in welcoming and connecting international students.
Congratulations to Astri, CIAA and everyone involved in bringing the celebration together. Thank you for inviting Study Cairns to be part of the day and for continuing to share Indonesian culture with the wider Cairns community.
Here’s to continued friendship, cultural exchange and community connection in Cairns!

🇯🇵🇦🇺 Strengthening Cairns–Minami Sister City Connections
Study Cairns was delighted to be part of the official welcome for students and delegates from our Sister City, Minami, Japan, during their visit to Cairns.
Hosted at Cairns Regional Council, the welcome brought together Mayor Amy Eden, Cairns Regional Councillors and the Council Executive Team, alongside representatives from our Japanese and Cairns communities.
During the welcome, we were pleased to hear from Mayor Amy Eden, Mr Shingo Higashimoto, Head of the Consular Office of Japan in Cairns, and the Mayor of Minami, celebrating the longstanding friendship between our two communities.

Cairns and Minami share a Sister City relationship dating back to 1969, with student and community exchanges continuing to play an important role in strengthening these connections.

For Study Cairns, these student visits are particularly important. They create opportunities not only for cultural exchange and friendship, but also for young people from Minami to experience Cairns as an education destination and discover future pathways to study in our region.

We were delighted to be part of the welcome and look forward to continuing to strengthen the education and community connections between Cairns and Minami. 🇦🇺🤝🇯🇵

🍕 Building connections beyond the classroom! 🤝

Through the Study Cairns International Student Ambassador Program, our student leaders are getting involved in a range of opportunities that connect them with the wider Cairns community.

One of these opportunities was an evening at the Study Cairns Student Hub with FNQ Young Rotaract, where students enjoyed free pizza, met community-minded young people and discovered ways to get involved in volunteering, local projects and upcoming initiatives across Far North Queensland.

🤝 Meet new people
🌏 Discover local volunteering opportunities
💡 Learn about community projects and events
🍕 Connect over good food and conversation

For our Student Ambassadors, opportunities like this help build confidence, strengthen communication and leadership skills, expand local networks and give them experiences they can share with other international students.

Our ambassadors are also actively involved in preparations for the Cairns Festival Parade on 29 August, helping to support an event that brings the Cairns community together and celebrates the diversity of our region.

From volunteering and community networking to supporting major local events, our Student Ambassadors are finding new ways to get involved in Cairns life, build their skills and contribute to the community.

We love seeing our international student leaders stepping up, getting involved, and helping to showcase the welcoming community that makes Cairns such a special place to study, live, and thrive. 💙

A big thank you to FNQ Young Rotaract for creating opportunities for our students to connect, learn and get involved in the community!

Meet our Student Ambassador Laila! 🇲🇺

We’re excited to introduce Laila, one of our Student Ambassadors in Cairns, representing the diverse international student community.

Originally from Mauritius, Laila completed her secondary education with a focus on Travel and Tourism, including a certified project in agritourism. She was also awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Physical Education in recognition of her discipline, commitment, and performance.

Laila is currently studying a Diploma of Community Services in Australia, having previously completed a Certificate IV in Ageing Support. Alongside her studies, she works in Clinical Assistance, providing person-centred care that supports residents’ independence, dignity, and overall wellbeing.

Her experience across aged care, hospitality, and support services has strengthened her adaptability, teamwork, and commitment to quality care. In recognition of her compassion, dedication, and contribution to resident wellbeing, Laila was honoured with the OzHeart Award 2025. ❤️

A significant milestone in her professional journey has also been securing employer sponsorship, reflecting her strong work ethic, professional capabilities, and the value she brings to the aged care sector.

As a Student Ambassador, Laila enjoys connecting with fellow students and sharing her experience of studying, working, and building a future in Australia. Passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives, she plans to continue her studies in nursing and further specialise in the healthcare sector.

If you see Laila around Cairns, be sure to say hello! She’s here to help you make the most of your student experience. 💙
