Last week some of our students had the incredible opportunity to attend JCUβs Daintree Rainforest Observatory research station in Cape Tribulation for three action packed days of scientific discovery π
Undertaking activities including spotlighting, revegetation, invertebrate surveys to determine the health of waterways, microbat call data collection, and a marine biology tour; this amazing part of the world where the rainforest meets the reef was the perfect place to be π³π
Students even had some time for a dip in the creek, stargazing and a campfireπ₯
Those who were brave enough to rise with the sun on the last day joined station manager Johan for an early morning drone flight to locate tree kangaroos using thermal imaging as part of his PhD on the arboreal mammals. They were even lucky enough to observe in real time an adult female and her joey! π
