EGGCELLENT EXPERIMENT | Year 11 Literature students had a crash course in socio-economic privilegeβquite literally! Each student was allocated a budget ranging from $50 to a generous $300 and challenged to purchase materials to create the ultimate protection for their egg before a high-stakes drop test. The results were both entertaining and thought-provoking. The only two eggs to survive belonged to students with budgets of $300 and $250, prompting some important conversations about how access to resources can shape opportunities and outcomes that are relevant to the themes in the film "Parasite" and the true crime novel "In Cold Blood", both of which Year 11 Literature students are studying this semester.
Unfortunately, the triumph was short-lived. While the eggs survived the fall, they were unable to survive Mrs Benson's dog, Millie, who brought their success story to an end at dinner time that evening. π Still, a valuable lesson in privilege, inequality, and the unpredictable nature of life.
