Thank you to our wonderful community members who have taken the time to paint a sign! We will get them out and about across our community over the next few weeks.

A Queensland wildlife organisation has warned that outdated government warning signs are fuelling reckless human interactions with crocodiles across Far North Queensland.

He’s baaaaaaaack! 🐊💚

Great to head up to the Daintree River today to catch up with David White from 🐊David White, crocodile guide , and even better to see Solar Whisper back on the water where it belongs!

After the devastating floods earlier this year, it was wonderful to see the result of such widespread community support to help David recover the vessel and get back to doing what he does best — sharing the Daintree River and its incredible crocodiles with people from all over the world.

We also got to see some true croc A-listers along the way- Scarface, Scuter, Dusty, and the newly arrived Mow from the Mowbray River 🐊✨

We also took up a few of the amazing crocodile warning signs created by our community for David to put to good use, reminding visitors to be crocwise and respect these animals and their habitat. 🐊

There can be a lot of division in the environment and conservation space, and at times it can feel pretty defeating. But seeing the community rally so strongly behind David has been a really lovely reminder that there is a huge community of croc lovers and community-minded people out there who genuinely care. That’s a good feeling.

It was also pretty special to take my kids out to meet David and the crocs for the first time. And our border collie, Rocco, got to come along too, although we discovered he definitely doesn’t have his sea legs yet. 😂🐶

Thank you, David, for a wonderful afternoon.

And thank you to everyone who continues to care for crocs, support the people working to protect them, and help us build a community where people and crocodiles can coexist. 🐊💚

Our signs have dried and will be out for delivery to some community members in some hot spot locations over the coming weeks. Thank you again to everyone who took part yesterday. If you’re a school or community group that would also like to develop some signs, please get in touch! Our team are also able to give crocodile education presentations to better understand croc safety, management and conservation from across the region.

Across Far North Queensland, we’re continuing to see reports of people feeding crocodiles and taking unnecessary risks around our waterways. We know that education is one of the most effective ways to change behaviour, so we’re inviting the community to help us deliver that message in a creative way.

On Saturday 1 August, CROC QLD is hosting a Community Sign Creation Day at CAFNEC’s Cominos House in Edge Hill. We’ll have all the materials ready to go, and we’re inviting families, artists, schools, community groups—or anyone who’s passionate about keeping people and crocodiles safe—to come along and create bright, eye-catching crocodile safety signs.

If you’ve already made a sign, you can also bring it along and drop it off on the day.

As an added bonus, we’ll also be running a free presentation on human-crocodile conflict, where we’ll discuss crocodile behaviour, why incidents happen, and the simple things we can all do to stay safe while helping keep crocodiles wild.

It’s completely free, all materials are supplied, and no artistic experience is needed—just bring your creativity and a willingness to make a difference.

We’d love to see you there and work together to turn art into action for a safer Far North Queensland.

Not many people see the enormous amount of stakeholder engagement, research, and persistence that happens behind the scenes to stand up for culture and conservation.

This week, we’d like to acknowledge our incredible lawyer, Kirstiana Ward from the Environmental Defenders Office, for always standing alongside the people, culture, and wildlife that need a voice. Over the past nine months, Kirstiana has dedicated countless hours to ensuring important matters of culture, conservation, and public interest are heard by the right decision-makers.

We’d also like to thank Kuku Warra Traditional Owner Alwyn Lyall, whose determination has never wavered despite repeated disappointment, limited consultation, and doors being closed. His unwavering commitment to improving public safety while ensuring culture and conservation remain at the heart of crocodile management is truly inspiring.

Real change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes people who are willing to keep showing up, keep advocating, and keep believing that a better way is possible.

We’re incredibly grateful to have such passionate and dedicated people in our corner. 💚
