Year 10 Extension History | Steps Into the Past
Year 10 Extension History students stepped straight into the past recently, exploring firsthand WWII evidence through the extraordinary experiences of two men whose stories are woven into Ms Hill-Murrayβs own family history.
Students investigated the wartime journey of πΏπππ’π‘πππππ‘ π½πβπ ππππππππππ, viewing World War II through his eyes, alongside the life and service of πΆπππ‘πππ π
πππππ‘ π»πππ-ππ’ππππ¦, Ms Hill-Murrayβs paternal great-grandfather, who served with the Royal British Armed Forces in India.
Using original maps, photographs, letters and personal artefacts, students pieced together locations, timelines and historical perspectives with the curiosity and precision of real historians. Rather than simply reading about history, they were handling authentic evidence, asking questions and uncovering the stories behind the sources.
It was a powerful reminder that history is far more than dates and eventsβit is made up of real people, real experiences and personal stories that continue to connect us to the past today.

While we can't reveal too many details just yet, we're incredibly proud of the way these students represented Newman Catholic College, Smithfield and look forward to sharing more when the project is officially released.

Year 10 | NCC Pathways in Action
From Work Experience Interviews with VPG - Vocational Partnerships Group and attending the Business Liaison Association Careers Expo to participating in work readiness sessions delivered by industry experts, students have been gaining valuable insights into future careers and pathways.
Next term, our Year 10s will participate in the SET Planning & Subject Selection Expo before putting their preparation into action through their Work Experience placements in Term 4. These valuable experiences will help students make informed decisions about their senior studies, future careers and post-school pathways.
Itβs all happening for our Year 10 students, with plenty of opportunities still to explore as they begin planning for their future.

Reconciliation Week | All In
Our College community came together for a meaningful assembly reflecting on this year's theme, π΄ππ πΌπ. We were honoured to welcome Aunty Mercy and enjoyed a cultural performance by the Yirrganydji Dancers, student reflections, and a presentation on the significance of the Mabo decision.
There was plenty of fun along the way, with students and staff joining in the dancing. A highlight of the morning was Mr Corrie serenading the audience with a rendition of ππππππ πΏππ, bringing plenty of smiles and laughter.
Earlier in the day, students also participated in a Lei and Ribbon Weaving Workshop with Shantal Daniels from πΏππ πΌπ‘ π·ππ€π.
