Smithfield Child Care Centre

Smithfield Child Care Centre Welcome to Smithfield Child Care. We are a not-for-profit community based Child Care Service. We value your feedback, input and constructive comments.

This page is a great opportunity to share news of your child's day with friends and family or to check in yourself to see your child/ren during their day. We also share other Centre news to make sure you are kept up to date with what's happening. It is our practise to provide a warm, responsive and caring environment for all children. One in which families can feel confident in the knowledge that

their children are well cared for in a supportive, safe setting which stimulates their individual growth and development. Your children are encouraged to experiment, explore and ask questions about the activities and the environment that surrounds them. They are able to choose between a wide range of activities, providing them with a range of experiences, so that they can grow and develop at their own pace. Under the Early Years Learning Framework, we utilise the Emergent or Negotiated Curriculum across the centre. This supports the children and Educators to work together to determine what experiences and activities they become involved in each day. It also guides us on how these same experiences can be (and are) extended into Centre projects and other exciting ventures! The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines supports Kindergarten teachers' professional practice in a range of contexts across Queensland. The guideline is based on the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) and embraces the inclusive vision that "all Children experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life". We utilise digital photography and slide shows to ensure you have easy access to what is happening during our day. We also invite you to share your thoughts and ideas for inclusion in our daily experiences. Support is available for any additional needs (developmental, cultural, language etc) that may present and we ensure that you are fully advised prior to any steps being taken to assist your child in these areas. As parents you are your child’s first and most important teacher and we value your input into the programming and the operation of the centre. Please feel free to spend whatever time you can with us: you are always welcome. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Director: Todd Avery.

50 Years of Deadly

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has celebrated the voices of our communities — steady, unapologetic, and proud. Each year, its themes have called for truth, celebrated culture, honoured resistance, and reminded the nation of who we are.

Fifty Years of Deadly marks a milestone. It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement. the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.

NAIDOC has always been more than a week — it’s a platform, a protest, a celebration, and a statement of survival.

This moment is about looking back at the stories, the marches, the languages, the art, the leadership. At the strength it took to get here. It’s about recognising how far we’ve come, not by chance, but because generations of people refused to be silenced.

It’s also about the here and now, who we are today. Grounded in culture. Strong in our identity. Leading change across every field, from health and education to media, business, and the arts. We’re telling our own stories, in our own way, on our own terms.

And it’s about the future. The next 50 years. The young ones growing up proud. The return of language. The return to Country. The fight for justice continuing with new tools, new voices, and the same fire.

Fifty Years of Deadly is a marker, not just of time passed, but of the momentum still building. It’s proof of what our people build when culture leads and community comes first. NAIDOC belongs to mob. It always has.

We honour what came before by continuing the work.

This is our story. This is our celebration. This is our future.

Still deadly. Always.

Please feel free to share :) Thanks.

We want to take a moment to say Congratulations to two of our amazing educators on completing their Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care!

Today we want to take a moment to acknowledge the dedication, hard work, and commitment shown by Ella and Millie throughout their studies. Balancing work, learning, and personal responsibilities is no small achievement, and they should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished.

Please join us in congratulating them on this fantastic milestone. We are excited to see them continue to grow and make a positive difference in the lives of children and families at Smithfield Child Care.

Congratulations and well done from the team at Smithfield Child Care.

International Women's Day 2026 theme is 'Give To Gain'

When we give, we gain.

Happy International Women's Day 2026 - 08/03/2026

We want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate all of the amazing women in our lives at SCCC.

Together, let's help forge gender equality through abundant giving.

The IWD 2026 Give To Gain Campaign encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration.

Give To Gain emphasises the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organisations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase. Giving is not a subtraction, it's intentional multiplication. When women thrive, we all rise.

Whether through donations, knowledge, resources, infrastructure, visibility, advocacy, education, training, mentoring, or time, contributing to women's advancement helps create a more supportive and interconnected world.

Dear families,

You may have seen media coverage about the safety alert for specific brands of coloured play sand that may contain asbestos.

We want to reassure you that we have reviewed our resources and we do not use the affected Educational Colours or Kadink coloured sand products at our service.

We will continue to monitor updates from the Department of Education and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and will follow all advice immediately if anything changes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to speak with us.

Thanks, SCCC.
