On this National Day of Mourning, ICIMOD joins Nepal in honouring all the lives lost in the flash floods that struck the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridor in Rasuwa district on 26 August 2026, in which more than 1,300 people have been confirmed dead and thousands remain missing.

We stand in solidarity with the people and Government of Nepal during this difficult time. As a regional knowledge institution working across the Hindu Kush Himalaya, ICIMOD remains committed to strengthening early warning systems and understanding of cascading mountain hazards, so that communities are better protected in the future.

Nepal passed the Intangible Cultural Property Bill in 2024, and it is now in its final stages of becoming a long-overdue law.

But to move from symbolic gestures to genuine protection, Nepal must fix the law’s structural flaws, writes Alisha Sijapati.

[Save-the-Date] We are delighted to announce that SEAA 11 will be held in Chengdu, 19–23 July 2027.

The SEAA conference brings together researchers, educators, students, and professionals from around the world to share the latest discoveries and exchange ideas across the field of East Asian archaeology.

Expect keynote lectures from distinguished scholars, panel discussions, and oral and poster presentations spanning prehistoric and historic archaeology, archaeological theory and science, heritage conservation, and museum studies. More details to come.

The annual CHINA Inc (Chinese Heritage in Northern Australia) conference returns to Cairns from 24–25 October, with a field trip to Innisfail on 23 October. The conference will be held at the Cairns Sheridan Hotel.

This year's theme, Commemorations, is especially fitting as it coincides with C150, including the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first Chinese in Cairns. It also marks CHINA Inc's 20th year, the 10th CHINA Inc conference, and the 50th anniversary of the Cairns and District Chinese Association Inc (CADCAI).
