Everyone Belongs is the theme for Harmony Week! Why not try some of the below actions with your Kindy kids to show they can make a difference. 🧡

Harmony Week starts today. It’s a reminder that Australia is at its best when people are treated with respect and everyone feels they belong – at work, at school, in the community, and online.

If you’re looking for a place to start this week, try one small action:
đź‘‹ Say hello and introduce yourself
🧡 Include someone who might be feeling left out
đź‘‚ Listen with respect when people share their experiences
âś… Speak up (safely) if you see racism or exclusion

Separation anxiety is a normal part of development, especially when starting in a new learning environment.

Keep goodbyes short and positive, reassure your child of when you'll return, and talk with educators prior about the best ways to comfort and support them.

Consistent morning routines can help to minimise rushing, which helps everyone feel more relaxed, and chat with your child on the way home to ask about the highlights of their day. This emphasizes the parts they enjoyed, which you can remind them of the next morning.

Finally, remember that it’s okay to ease in gradually. Educators are accustomed to accommodating a wide range of needs right throughout the year, but especially in the early weeks. Goodbyes can feel hard, but there will be an approach that works well for your child, and your family. Together, we've got this!

It’s here! ❤️ Today marks the 21st annual .

Today marks Day for Daniel – Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day, honouring and remembering Daniel Morcombe.

Across Australia, we call upon educators, parents, and caregivers to educate our children, keeping them safe by helping them identify unsafe situations, teaching them how to react, and empowering them to report abuse and seek help. It's crucial for adults to be prepared to listen and, most importantly, to believe.

This time of year often brings questions for families about whether their child is 'Prep ready'. Lady Gowrie Queensland have shared some helpful questions to ask, which may assist in deciding if your child is ready for Prep.

At this time of the year, early childhood teachers are often approached by families asking whether their child is ready for Prep. Rather than looking at number recognition or writing their name, we encourage a holistic approach.

All children have different needs, interests and motivations, so each child’s transition to Prep will be unique. Families might consider:

1. Does the child seek help when needed, with both tasks and emotions?
2. How confident are they in approaching familiar adults and friends?
3. Are they able to respect boundaries, people and environments?
4. How keen are they do give new things a go?
5. What strategies help them to regulate their emotions when things get
tough?
6. Are they able to follow multi-step instructions?
7. Do they show independence and self-help skills as part of their daily
routine?
8. How easily does the child initiate play, or enter established play?

Your child’s Kindergarten teacher can help answer any questions you may have about your child’s readiness. The Queensland government also has a range of helpful information and resources available to assist families and educators in supporting children in their transition to school. Remember: it’s okay to not be okay — and it’s always okay to ask.
