In line with the Queensland Government’s directive, St. Michael’s College Early Learning Centre and Outside School Hours Care will be closed on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th March.

We encourage you to stay informed through the City of Moreton Bay - Disaster Dashboard (https://disaster.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/)

During and after the cyclone, our ability to communicate with families in the usual manner may be impacted due to damage to infrastructure within or external to the Early Learning Centre and Outside School Hours Care. We will continue to attempt to provide updates to families via Storypark and the Early Learning Centre Facebook group. We encourage you to check school closures on School Closures on the Disaster Dashboard (https://closures.qld.edu.au/)

The Australian Government has announced a Child Care Subsidy period of emergency in affected areas. This emergency allows for the following support to flow to services and families affected:

• the service can continue to get Child Care Subsidy
• the service can waive gap fees for families
• children will get unlimited allowable absences for the duration of the period of emergency

Further information on CCS periods of emergency is available here - (https://www.education.gov.au/early-childhood/providers/extra-support/emergency #:~:text=During%20a%20CCS%20period%20of%20emergency%2C%20families%20in%20affected%20regions,the%20CCS%20period%20of%20emergency)

As this event unfolds, please prioritise the safety and wellbeing of you and your family above all else. Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you all once the cyclone has passed.

Today we commemorate National Sorry Day.

"Every year on the 26th May, National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’.

National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation."

While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also an important date for all Australians’, as it reminds us that we all play a part in reconciliation and, on the eve of National Reconciliation Week, prompts us to consider how we will and begin to close the gap.

Meet Stormi and Toffee!

They're here . . .after a day of settling into their surroundings, our new pet guinea pigs will be out and about spending time with the OSHC children.

We have moved their cage into the OSHC office whilst they acclimatise to the busy play environment and get familiar will lots of little hands patting them.

When they get a bit bigger we are hoping to put them back on the veranda for everyone to enjoy. Parents and siblings are most welcome to pop in and check the new additions out.

Today we were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr. Terry Young who presented our OSHC with an Australian Flag so that we are able to display the Australian Flag along with the Aboriginal Flag and Torres Strait Islander Flag within our OSHC. He spent some time talking with the children about Flag protocol and why it's important to respect the protocol and then he presented some of our students with our new Flag.

Thank you Terry Young MP for your time and our Flag, we look forward to displaying it and sharing what we learned from you with all the other OSHC children!

A big shout out to Bribie Island Community Kindergarten for letting us borrow their foot spas. The children were very enthusiastic to "volunteer" to work in the nail salon so that they could pamper each other. It was wonderful to observe their team work. Thank you!! :) (They were that keen, the educators got the "sack", haha).

Wheels day is well underway. The children are spending as much time outside as possible before the wild weather arrives.

Were ready for the rain with our homemade playdough. 😁

A massive shout out to Camp Hill Outside School Hours Care for having us yesterday. The kids (and big kids) had the best day exploring all the play spaces (we all slept well😴). Everyone has been inspired, we are all keen to build and make our backyard even better. Thank you for the leading the way and showing us that taking risks has so many positive benefits for the childre !!😁🙏
