📸: George Karbus Photography · Happy ! Signature whistles are just one component of dolphin sonic repertoire, which also includes chirps and echolocation clicks. Dolphin phonations create complex patterns in the water – inferring that these patterns can be manipulated, projected, and read by dolphins much as we would read the visual patterns we see. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is suggested that this may be the key to dolphin “language.” This may or may not be the exact case, but there is no reason to believe that dolphins would not be able to sense and manipulate the deeper complexities of water-borne vibrations – given that they have have been communicating in a sound/water medium for 30 million years.

A Hawaiian monk seal and green sea turtle (honu) cuddled up on the beach in Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. The two iconic species share the sandy shores of the Hawaiian Islands, and are often seen resting near or even together on the beaches of this national monument. 💙

🔈 Sound on! 🎥: Slater Moore Photography Pacific white-sided dolphins are one of the most abudant dolphin species in the North Pacific. Pods typically consist of 10 to 100 dolphins, but they have been seen gathering in the thousands! They use whistle vocalizations to communicate amongst themselves, and echolocation clicks to "see" their surroundings.
