Sound on 🔊anyone that knows me well will laugh so hard at this. I promise I'm not becoming a runner and switching to the darkside. You can pull the dumbbells out of my cold dead hands 😂 but I'm actually really proud of myself 🥹
I signed up for the Lismore Samson Fitness challenge at the start of the year looking to push myself out of my comfort zone, try new things and face fears head on (including my intense dislike of running).
What i hadn't realised through my own training was how slack I had been with my cardio. I hadn't been working it into my fitness routine so the first few training runs for this were a TOTAL shock.
As a teen athlete, this was such a wake up call in my mid-thirties. Like most millenials I added running to my ever growing list of hobbies and kept cracking. 🏃♀️
The first run I could barely do 2km without stopping and I felt horrendous. But I kept at it slowly each week, following my own programme and slowly building fitness and calf/foot muscle back. The feeling after hitting that first unbroken 3km was amazing.
It's always easier when you have a goal to work towards and friends doing things with you so once training for the samson was finished I decided to join a local run club.
I've since learned it's okay to slow down, not to run full out from minute 1 and that you can actually improve just by doing this alone. I've since gone on to find myself running comfortable 5kms most weeks. I really didn't want to lose the progress I made. The feeling of that first run in January hasn't left my mind and I refuse to let myself get so unconditioned again.
Some weeks I walk/jog, some weeks I run 3km and the odd week I choose a lie in instead of a 4.30am alarm. What matters is I have kept consistent and I'm really proud of myself.
I've signed up for a "fun" 🤦♀️ run in September and will keep up the training.
So if you're sat there watching other people make things look easy, just think that all you have to do is start. Find something to work towards or find people who will help make it fun. No one ahead of you is going to mock you for trying or for starting because everyone starts somewhere ❤️

How many did you tick off?! 🙈🙊 all or nothing thinking is keeping you stuck. Perfectionism and people pleasing are keeping you stuck. If you want to ACTUALLY start doing the work and get results you need to do something entirely different to everything you've tried before that didn't stick.

💪Tough love you need to hear - swipe to read the captions 📖
🤷♀️I'm not here to hurt your feelings. I'm here to help you stop lying to yourself.
🏃♀️What’s the difference between a friend and a coach? A friend loves you enough to “protect” you from the truth. I love you enough to tell you what is ACTUALLY keeping you stuck.
"I don't want to lift weights because I don't want to get bulky."
Yet you can’t stand up off the floor without holding onto something. You’re calling your body getting weaker and less mobile “a normal part of the ageing process” yet becoming frail is optional. You don’t need to be a body builder, but you DO need to build a body that will carry you through the next 30 years.
"I won’t follow a meal plan it’s too restrictive”
Respectfully you can work pasta, chocolates and fun foods into a plan. Restricting yourself all week, or all day before you go out and then bingeing for 3 days over the weekend and calling it “balanced” is bu****it. Restriction leads to rebellion, guilt, shame and spoiler alert - more food to fix the problem. How about building a healthy relationship with food and learning how to eat well for your body and INCLUDE the things you love? A few weeks of learning leading to a lifetime of actually living in balance.
“I’m too tired to workout & go to the gym”
No, you’re tired BECAUSE you aren’t going to the gym. You don’t have any idea how inactive you are because you don’t use a tracker for steps, then kid yourself that a couple of walks a week and one random pilates class is a fitness routine. Nope. You’re struggling to keep up with your kids, struggling to not crash on the couch after work because you’re unfit. The more you train, the more you move, the more energy you have.
"I know what to do. I just don't do it."
This is one of my favourites to hear. So why not then? You don’t have an information problem, so many women I speak to tell me in great detail how they are just so busy, they have “x, y, z problem with their health” or “I have an old injury” or my absolute favourite “I self-sabotage/have x, y, z block”. Great. You know the problem, so you don’t need more info you need to actually DO the thi

Anyone else sick of seeing perfectly curated everything at the moment? Anyway here's some realism to break up your feed. Are the angles and lighting perfect? No. Does this make me somehow less than. Also no. Just proof that a change in perspective can change your perspective. The same person with visible abs also has rolls of skin, bad hair days and just generally exists as a human outside of this app. Stop comparing yourself to others on here. Focus on yourself, your training and levelling up so much that you don't have the time to compare yourself to anyone ❤️
