Bute Early Learning and Primary School

Bute Early Learning and Primary School Bute Early Learning & Primary School is a small rural school situated on the Northern Yorke Peninsul Participation in sport is encouraged.

Bute Primary School is a small rural school situated on the Northern Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The school was established in a tin building in 1886 before being listed as a public school in 1894. Bute's main form of industry is farming where wheat and barley cereal crops are the primary produce. The school has a current enrolment of 50 students from Reception - Year 7 and is well placed

in terms of its facilities and resources. We have three classrooms: R - 1, Years 2 - 4 and Years 5 - 7. The school has a principal, four teachers and three support staff. The school population derives from a diverse range of socio-economic backgrounds and influences. About a third of the students travel to school by school bus, with the other students either living locally or driven in from the outskirts of the township by their parents. All sport is community based, competing against towns across the Yorke Peninsula.

Author visit - Steph March

We kicked off Book Week in the best possible way…a visit from a very local author, Steph March!

Steph was so generous with her time, sharing her newly published book, the reason behind the book and the work that goes into creating and publishing a picture book!

Our students absolutely loved the visit and many of our budding authors would have left the session feeling very inspired.

It truly is a must have book for all school and home libraries.

SSO / ECW / PCW Week

This SSO / ECW / PCW Week, we proudly celebrate the incredible people who support our children, families and staff every single day.

Across so many diverse and highly important roles, our support staff bring patience, care, flexibility, knowledge and heart to everything they do. They are often the quiet hands behind the scenes, the reassuring voice when someone needs support, and the steady presence that helps our school and early learning community thrive.

The difference they make is seen, felt and deeply valued.

Thank you to every SSO, ECW and PCW for the care, commitment and dedication you bring to our community each and every day. We are so grateful for you. ❤️

Book Week - Author Visit

I am very excited to announce that we will have Steph March visit our students next Monday to share and discuss her new book and the bigger initiative behind her work. Below is a blurb about the origins of her work. We have quickly snapped up a pre-ordered copy for our school library, and also some copies to gift to our friends at each of the 3 Hospital School campuses. I encourage all families to consider getting a copy for their own home bookshelves as the story is such an important one for our young people and their support networks to hear.

Message from Steph;
This book was born from lived experience, from nearly a decade of navigating the paediatric health system alongside my son, and from knowing firsthand how frightening, isolating and overwhelming that world can feel for a child and the people who love them.

What I noticed, again and again, was that the hardest part wasn't always the medical experience itself. It was often the silence or isolation around it. The not knowing what to say. The fear of saying the wrong thing. The uncertainty about how to help, what to do, or where to begin. Adults wanting desperately to help, and not having a way in.

The BB Crew exists to change that.

At its core, this book is about connection first, creating a quiet, gentle space where an adult and a child can simply be together. When that connection happens, children feel less alone. From that safety, the conversation - whatever that child needs to say - has room to begin.

Every child's experience is different. Every feeling and every child matters.

I’m super excited to share that we have organised the Copper Grounds coffee van to attend our Book Week Shared Reading morning on the 26th of August!
I’m certain we will all appreciate this little addition to our morning tea.
I’m sure the barista, Chelsea, won’t mind if our wider community also take the opportunity to grab a delicious coffee while she is in Bute. The van will be serving the cups of magic at the Bute Community Park between 10am - 12noon!

❤️🤍Kindness Project 🤍❤️

A couple of years ago our student leaders delivered a number of care/kindness packages to the midwife team at the Wallaroo Hospital. These packages were then gifted to families welcoming a new bubs into the world. These packages included some nice things for the Mums and bubs (Sorry Dads!).
We thought that it would be nice to reengage with the midwife team and create some new gifts, containing different items. So our 2026 student leaders got busy and today we did a road trip to deliver these packages to the Wallaroo Hospital!

We sincerely hope they help to spread a little extra joy at this amazing and special time for the families who receive them. 🤱❤️🤍

Why is there a near life-size fibreglass cow currently grazing in the Principal's Office...?
That's because we have successfully been selected to participate in the Picasso Cow project for Term 3! Below is a little blurb about this exciting opportunity for our school;

Designed for primary school students and aligned with the Australian Curriculum, the Picasso Cows program takes students on a deep dive into the Australian Dairy Industry. From its health and nutritional benefits to life on the dairy farm, all the way to how milk ends up in their lunchboxes, they’ll learn it all in a hands-on way. And the best part? They’ll transform a life-size fibreglass cow into a masterpiece of their own design which the school gets to keep and display with pride.

We look forward to updating our wonderful community throughout this project.

A big thanks to Dairy Australia for this fantastic opportunity. ❤️🤍🐄
